Any stamp price rises for 2019?

Post by rmcunion »

Hi all,

As we all know, for the past few years the price of stamps have been going up annually, with an announcement around about this time of year about what the new prices will be.

Is such a rise not happening this year?

RM postage price increase for 2019/20 haven't been announced yet. I would assume there will be an increase, and a press release will be issued soon.

Ah, the announcement this year is a week later than their usual ... looks like I might have jumped the gun in being optimistic.
Thanks all!

Bit late to the party, but have looked up and found they are going up yet again...

Why is it that RM feel the need to charge more and more each year for stamps? The fuel prices are actually LOWER this year than what they were last year!

61p is a bit harsh for a 2nd class stamp is it not? In 2018 it was 58p, in 2017 it was 56p...

The same goes with large letters. 83p now instead of 79p (2018) and 76p (2017)? An increase of almost 10p over two years?

£3 for a small parcel does not sit very nicely with MyHermes' rate of £2.79

£5.10 for a medium parcel (<2kg) does not sit very nicely with CollectPlus' £3.99 (up to 2kg) and MyHermes' £4.19 (up to 2kg medium)

And as I mentioned in my first thread I created here, anything above 2kg is an utter joke.

I heard that RM have broken Ofcom regulation for 7 days because of the 2nd class price hike. Why oh why do Ofcom not regulate RM on items above 2kg in weight?!

The weird thing is that, for large letters above 2kg, that need a tracking or reference number, they are actually cheaper going MyHermes now! Royal Mail do not add tracking or reference number on to large letters unless signed for (so they could be anywhere - not great for resolving disputes on online auction sites) whereas MyHermes provide tracking as standard across all services.

A "large letter" has a maximum volume of ~2200 cubic centimeters
A "small parcel" (MyHermes use the same dimensions as RM) has a maximum volume of 25,200 cubic centimeters = 11x that of a large letter

Meaning that I could send items out in huge packets over 10x the volume and they'd still be cheaper than the >250g "large letter" bracket of RM, with a tracking number!

I don't know what Royal Mail think of sometimes with their prices...
