Letter Sizes and Post Boxes

Post by caricky »

Hello, I was hoping an experienced postie might be able to take a look at the letters in the image, and let me know if any are likely to cause any issues being put in a royal mail post box, specifically with regards to the teeth inside.

From left to right we have an all board a6 envelope, all board a5 envelope, slightly bigger than a6 jiffy green, slightly bigger than a5 jiffy green.

Thanks, Craig

I was told by the man in the post office that my packages were getting caught and blocking up the box, though he didn't know which as the royal mail man didn't say. He said they were getting caught on the teeth/spikes, things that stop people putting their hands in.

There are teeth/spikes on the inside of some posting slits to help prevent mail being pulled back out I presume.

You live and learn. I have seen the inside of a few post boxes but none had that feature.

The white A6 & A5 envelopes should go in with no problems. The brown jiffy bags look like ones filled with sort of shredded paper filling rather than bubble wrap. Dependent on what is put inside them the small one should go in but the larger one might not.
Regarding spikes inside RM post boxes I think most have them inside. If you reach in carefully you will be able to feel them. I think the new replacement boxes have the sharpest spikes. One of the old Post boxes was ripped out of the ground and stolen on my rural walk some time ago and replaced with one of the new boxes.
