Complaint about a postman
I have made a complaint about a postman.
He has always been rude. Tampered with my post. and has now been abusive and aggressive in the street. I have never understood why he has a problem with/targeted me, but after the last time he screamed at me and called me names in the street, I finally made a complaint.
I have tried to reason with him for about five years.
I was informed I would receive a reply soon. Royal Mail did not reply.
I contacted Royal Mail again and was informed nothing would be done. The postman in questioned blamed me for everything.
His manager is his friend.
I was informed I could escalate the situation and receive a reply in two hours. I agreed to this and once again I have been totally ignored by Royal Mail.
Apart from the abuse in public, my mail has been tampered with costing me a lot of time and money (I run a small business).
Now the postman has the full blessing from his superiors, I am very concerned about what he may do next.
I really don’t know what to do.
Any advise would be gratefully appreciated.

The power of social media works wonders, forcing them to take action. As long as they can fob you off, they will do nothing.
You could also involve the police if you have evidence of mail tampering which is a criminal offence.

Many thanks for the reply.
I don't think I still have anything that could be considered evidence, unfortunately.
The abuse in the street has really disturbed me. I do feel strongly enough about it to contact the police, but as the postman lies all the time, would they help?
I am not really active on social media. Would you recommend twitter?
Once again, many thanks for the response!

Complaint about a postman
I did get a response from Royal Mail on Twitter. Just to ask me to send some details and they will get back to me. Hopefully they actually do. Thanks for that advice!
Apart from shouting at me in the street, he hasn't done anything I could record. If I had brought my phone out he would have stopped. When one lady passed he immediately changed and said a hello to her then switched back to being in a rage and continued shouting at me.
I think everything he has ever done has been targeted at only myself for some reason. I don't think he does this with anyone else. He would even give me a cheerful wave if he passed me in the van with another postman.

Worth while speaking to neighbours to see if they would be willing to give evidence if they have observed the postman using inappropriate behaviour?diablobambino wrote:I did get a response from Royal Mail on Twitter. Thanks for a response.
He has never shouted or been abusive to me on my street. He has always been horrible, but nothing neighbours would notice. I think he is very aware. His behaviour around other people is completely different.
I did happen to pass the lady he said hello to and she claimed she remembered nothing. As I don't know people on these streets, I guess they feel they don't want to get him in trouble. They know him. I'm sure they have no reason to complain about him. Everything seems to be targeted at only me.
As far as tampering with my mail goes, my garden is pretty closed off, so I don't think anyone could see him. I assume he does it in the van and it probably wouldn't look out of the ordinary anyway.
I have asked the neighbours about him before. My neighbours during the day are a few elderly ladies. They seem to think he 'isn't the full shilling' in an adorable way. This is not the case.
I have since passed him since he lied about me to his manager. He saw me and broke out into a jaunty tune and laughed. I guess he has even more confidence now he knows he can definitely get away with everything with the backing of his manager (his friend).
I have tried to prevent anything from being delivered by Royal Mail if possible, but knowing he is around in my area all day is very disturbing.
I only wish I could record something and have definite proof.
Thanks again for the reply!

Complaint about a postman
My original complaint was dismissed by the manager. I escalated the case and this was again dismissed by the manager.
I have had to constantly chase this up (Royal Mail has only contacted me once), speaking to various different people who all say they cannot do anything because the manager has chosen to ignore the issues I have raised.
Does anyone know if there is a way to communicate with anyone who has authority over the manager?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Contact the police with regards to mail tampering, which as mentioned above is a criminal offence?diablobambino wrote:My original complaint was dismissed by the manager. I escalated the case and this was again dismissed by the manager.

Thank you for the reply.
My only concern with going to the police is that I have no evidence. I have kept the most recent opened item, but I cannot prove he did it. I do know he was the one who handled the item, but I cannot prove it.
Having had my complaint entirely dismissed by Royal Mail and knowing the unit manager (his friend) will back the postman up, I am not sure how to proceed.
Has anyone had any experience with the police?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Complaint about a postman
Thanks for all the replies.
The postman himself told me that they are friends and that he would not get into any trouble as his manager trusts him and would not question him regarding any wrongdoing. I was not complaining about anything or accusing him of anything. It wasn't a situation he may feel the need to lie about, so I did believe it. He does lie all the time, though.
Another postman mentioned that the postman and the manager get along very well together. Other people who work there have a professional relationship with the unit manager, but they are more like friends (I wondered if they could be related). The manager donates money to the postman on a website. The postman didn't ask anyone one else who works there for donations. Not that that means anything, but it suggests the decisions made are possibly biased.
When I have contacted Royal Mail, I have been told on separate occasions that the unit manager will contact me for more details or reach out to me to provide a solution. The unit manager has never tried to contact me.
I was informed that the unit manager had basically gone to bat for the postman after I made the initial complaint and when I escalated the case. The people I was talking to could do nothing.
That is why I asked the question about unit managers. Are they all powerful at Royal Mail?
I have now escalated my case to the Postal Review Panel.
I feel I should wait and see if they can help before contacting the police.
Has anyone contacted the police regarding an issue with a postperson/mail, and do you have any advice as to the best way to go about it?
Thanks for any help.
