Special Handstamps by Reposting Help

Post by Jay2018 »

Hi,

I live in the UK and I wanted to have a go at making one of my own "first day covers". I would really appreciate some help it is much more complicated than i expected lol. I figured someone here might have experience using the service.

I have read the Royal Mail Guide a couple of times:
https://www.royalmail.com/sites/default ... s_2012.pdf

It looks like i can make/buy a blank cover/postcard, address it, add a stamp and then go to this page and pick a hand-stamp https://www.royalmail.com/postmarks write the code and date for the stamp i want on an outer envelope and then put all that into the outer envelope and send it to the right Special Hand-stamp Center, before the date on the stamp. They will stamp it and send it back to me.

1. From what i understand i can only choose a handstamp that has a date in the future or one with no date on it. right?
2. Can I put 2 of the same postcards into the same outer-envelope? Or does each card need to be sent in it's own outer-envelope? Does that make sense? lol
3. It says to write instructions on the outer-envelope so they know what stamp to stamp it with. What should i write, other than the stamp code and date? Can I ask them to stamp in a particular location? Where do i write this kind of info?
4. It sounds like if i send a cover/envelope or maxicard you should send an addressed envelope too, because they need to put your hand-stamped items in it, to send them back to you without them getting damaged or re-stamped in the mail is that right?
5. Does this repost-envelope need postage (i.e. stamped self-addressed enveloped or just self-addressed envelope), as each cover in it would now contain multiple cancelled stamps on them anyway? Or will royal mail add postage to it for me?

Sorry if the questions are a bit long. They must seem like such weird questions. I was aware that special hand stamps existed but assumed that only the people that pay/sponsor them could get stuff stamped with them.

Any help would really be appreciated.
