Was my item stolen? or just blocked?

Post by kacemrostom »

Hey guys,
So this is tricky one.
I bought two iPhones (6s and 7) from Facebook marketplace from a guy after paying him in advance 70% of the price. He then sent me the following tracking number: BH638939672GB which is the only part of the receipt i have. After 3 days the item didn’t move from the post office, i contacted Royal Mail and they said it was never collected. I went by myself to the post office where it was sent but then the guy showed me a manifest stating it was sent to the next collection point.
The sender said he has nothing to loose since he mostly received his money and the receipt was destroyed and didn't want to make a claim or even bother going to the post office again to see what happened there.
So what are my options here, and does sending an iPhone a problem later on?

Thanks for your advice.

Its possible it has been stolen, but that's the least likely possibility seeing as it was sent by Special Delivery.

If he hasn't packaged it correctly it may have been seized and is being sent to Belfast for checking. There are very strict rules in regard to batteries.

It's also possible it has been lost.

Its also possibly a scam, certainly Facebook is full of them

However, legally the seller has the responsibility to make sure you receive it, so if you have paid by credit card alert your card issuer. If it's by debit card it can be a bit more difficult but alert your bank anyway.

If you paid cash, then you have probably lost it all.

However, I would still try to put a claim of non-receipt in against Royal Mail, you won't get back much if anything, but it will alert them that there may be a problem.
