Hi. So I put a £1.05 stamp on a simple greeting card going from UK to US (whose weight I checked met the old World Zone 1 £1.05 price before 27th March) on 31st March. It was correct price on 26th March but underpriced when I posted it on 31st March!!
Stupidly, I knew first and second class were going up but didn't think to check if international prices were going up too. I then foolishly posted it - with no return address, nor any return address on the inside.
1. Do you think Royal Mail might show some leeway given that they've only just changed the prices a few days ago? Or will it be steamed open and then destroyed after a month when they see that there is no return address available? If Royal Mail do send it abroad, might USPS impound it for underpaid postage or deliver it extra slow? It's just a simple greeting card in an envelope, no extra weight or anything else dodgy-looking inside.
2. I'm going to phone the local post office on Monday to see if I can tell them the destination and offer to pay any fines so it carries on its journey. The card was posted by me in a postbox, so I didn't get any proof of postage or tracking or anything so I suspect they will tell me they can do nothing. Is there any point in phoning the post office, or trying to get through to the local sorting office?
Thanks for any tips.

There used to be some leeway shown, but if not it will get sent by surface mail. The foreign postal administration will neither no nor care if the item is underpaid.
No point ringing the Post Office as it isn't anything to do with them. Not much point ringing Royal Mail either, except to check on their current procedures: it is effectively impossible to pull one item out of the system.
