Returned to sender - 2 days?!?!

Hello,

I had a package due for delivery this Saturday. It didn't arrive and I have checked the tracking number and it says returned to sender.

It said it was attempted at 09:27, and I know for a fact that this was not the case as I was awake, and waiting for this since 7am. Went for a cigarette at around 9 and no post. Went out again at 11 and post had been delivered.

No card was left at all.

I was stupid and left some things in a hotel room, but it had my annual season ticket (train) and house keys.

Checked full tracking and it said it was at hove today, which is down the road.
What I'm wondering though is will it be at hove tomorrow morning?!
And the fact I do not have a card to collect?

Confused.....

Sorry, just really need that season ticket, can't face paying another 100 for a weekly pass.

Any advice welcome.

Hi, items aren't normally returned to sender that fast if they are able to be delivered - it would have been kept at the local office for 18 days if a card had been left. It sounds more likely to me that your item was undeliverable for some reason, such as an incomplete or illegible address. So far as I know, those are the only reasons an item would be immediately returned instead of being held at the local office.

Would you mind posting the tracking info shown on this page?

It looks like it's being held at the local office for you to collect now. If it were being returned, I think there would usually be another scan at the top of that list saying it - there would be at our place anyway.

They are unlikely to let you collect the item at your local office without the red card which should have gone through your door at half 9 last Saturday. I've no idea why it didn't, I can only think it's simple human error. I once stood at a letterbox and as my phone went off I posted with the wrong hand - the recorded letter went through without a signature and the red card all filled out was still there in my other hand! Maybe your postie was distracted and walked off with both the red card and your item and never realised his mistake?

You should be able to book a redelivery easily though. I think it's: royalmail.com/redelivery or phone them on 03456 021 021.

Well I went to the delivery office on the off chance, and they have no record of the item being logged in (whey!) and that it definitely won't be at hove.

They said that hopefully it has been returned to sender providing that they left a returned address. Which they say they have.

Worried now, as what if it takes 18 day to return :(
They were helpful though without the card. Took utility bill, bank card and passport.

That is bizarre that it was returned to sender so fast. It shouldn't take 18 days to return, that's only how long they would have kept it at the local office if they were going to. So long as a clear return address was on it then they would probably have it back to them within a day or 2, I've certainly delivered 'return to sender' items within 2 days of their attempted delivery.

Actually there are some items that we do return straight away, even without leaving a p739, here in scotland some offices deliver court summons which in some cases are returned immediately if no answer and some are p739d for only seven days,

Really? What if I'm in the shower when the postie calls? Would I miss my only opportunity to receive the court summons? I do hope that delivery wouldn't be attempted at a neighbour's - how embarrassing!

Just a thought: if the item had the wrong address, and the person at that address refused, would the item be RTS immediately?

I send Parcel to my friend in Bristol but I got returned . I didn't knew that this can happen so I didn't put my full address. My reference ID is KL884509375GB. Please if you could return the parcel on this address.
Or if I can also receive it from royal mail office in high wycombe. Please the parcel is precious it has my friend late mother things in it.

We are not Royal Mail so we can’t return it to you, you need to get in touch with them. I recommend that you complete a lost parcel form.
