Sending mail UK-EU

Post by Nycther »

Hello,

Firstly, sorry if this has been answered before or is listed somewhere, I did a quick search and seemingly couldn't find anything.
Anyway, I have a friend who lives in the Republic of Ireland, not the northern, so he isn't part of the UK and therefore to send him mail it must be done through international methods. My local post office isn't very local for me, so on the few occasions I have to send him mail its rather a hassle. However, there is a postbox within 2 minutes walk.

So my question is; for a large letter, sending non-probhibited goods, a value of less than £20, could I simply apply the right postage value in stamps, write the method of delivery and pop it in the postbox?
For example, a <100g large letter to Ireland costs £2.45 by "Royal Mail International Standard". 1st class large letter stamps are worth £0.95 and regular 1st class £0.63.

If I apply 2x 1st class large and 1 x 1st class regular (0.95 + 0.95 +0.63), which comes to the total value of £2.53 and then write beneath the stamps "Royal Mail International Standard" would this be sufficient enough to be delivered to the Republic of Ireland? A customs form is not required as it is within the EU and the postage would be over paid.

Would this work? It would be so much easier for me this way, but I wanted to ask before trying. And although I don't really plan to, would this method work for say posting to Germany etc, providing the postage value was correct.

Thank you for your time and help, it is greatly appreciated :)

Thank you for your answer, very much appreciated. This will save me a considerable amount of time :)
CN22 isn't required for countries within the European Union, correct?

Goods being posting from the UK to another EU nation do not require customs documentation. The exceptions to this are the following EU destinations:

Channel Islands - Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Herm and Sark.
Andorra.
Canary Islands.
Gibraltar.
San Marino.
Vatican City State.

Much appreciated. I think that I did have a read through there, but I figured I would ask to be 100% sure. Once again, thank you for your answers
