Address says SOUTH KOREA, receipt says N. KOREA

Post by dieselnutjob »

Hello,

Today I posted an item to South Korea with insurance and tracking. The address label said South Korea pretty clearly.
This evening I was going through the receipts and noticed on the receipt that has the "bar code" that it say N. Korea on it.
Obviously now I am pretty worried that the bar codes will be read, not the real address, and that the computers will send the parcel to the wrong country.

Can anyone tell me what will happen?

Also is there any way to contact someone on a Saturday to get it corrected before it's too late?

thanks.

I was wondering whether putting the tracking number up on a public website would be a good idea, but, what the hey, I'm sufficiently worried now to just do it.

It's RU814880828GB

The address was written in massive capital letters. But if the computer already knows where it's going
Also the recipients phone number is on there, together with my return address in much smaller letters.
The customs declaration says
Electronic box
Cables
Value=50

thanks for any advice

The Langley HWDC sorting computer has obviously been hacked by North Korean agents, mistaking it for the computer in CIA HQ ,Langley, Virginia USA. :Very Happy
But fortunately their dastardly plan has been foiled by the eternal vigilance of the Royal Mail IB and your packet is on it's way to the intended destination!

The bar code has no details about the address its just an easy way of tracking where it has been scanned. The receipt having the country wrong will also have no effect on delivery.

When the post office clerk is processing an item with a barcode to go overseas, they have to choose the country by choosing the first letter of the country's name from a list and then choosing the name of the country from the next screen. For instance, for Albania they first choose the A button on the screen, then choose Albania from the next screen. IIRC North Korea is listed under K as Korea (North) but South Korea is listed under S as South Korea. This caused much confusion on the odd occasion when a package was going to South Korea (I never saw anything for their mad neighbours). I think the clerk has been caught out by this longstanding quirk of the Horizon system.

Anyway, as TBT rightly says, the Royal Mail only pay attention to what is written on the packet.
