UNKNOWN BAG - MISSING DUN
That just means the bag it was in didn't have the bit of paperwork that supposed to get put in a bag, that's nothing to worry about. It should appear at some point on the tracking of GLS (who generally handle all registered post sent from the UK within the EU) there tracking page is https://gls-group.eu/EU/en/parcel-tracking" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

What was the contents of the parcel? I would have expected it to show as being dispatched to Germany by now (Germany is where GLS's central hub is located)

The content was lipstick. But why is these important?

By GLS Tracking with the ID: LB185184061GB you get the answer :
No results.
Please check the tracking number(s) or shipment reference(s).

Now the last point of tracking is Royal Mail. 6 days the same status and nothing.....that is to worry about it for me....

Sometimes people get caught out by what's restricted on being sent http://www.royalmail.com/personal/help- ... s-overseas" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and what's prohibited from being sent abroad http://www.royalmail.com/personal/help- ... s-overseas" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Over the last week or so there have been several complaints of a similar nature. I would suggest that there is a problem with German customs or with GLS.

To clarify Spacephoenix's point: lipstick is fine to send but nail varnish is a problem. The rules trip up a lot of people.

Hi everyone,

I've got the exact same problem as marekmoney. My parcel is coming from the UK and has been sent to Germany as well.

Here is the item's history:

05/06/15 00:11 RECEIVEDUNKNOWN BAG - MISSING DUN HEATHROW WORLDWIDE DC
04/06/15 20:04 DESPATCHABLE TOHWDC AIRSURE HOME COUNTIES NORTH MC
04/06/15 19:54 COLLECTED HOME COUNTIES NORTH MC

And nothing has changed for over 6 days now. I've never had this problem with Royal Mail before, but it seems to be happening to quite a few people I know currently, so I don't believe in random bad luck any more. I've got no idea what's going on there. I haven't ordered anything illegal for sure, and usually it would have been despatched to Frankfurt, Germany on the 5th or at the 6th at the latest. But it seems to be stuck.

My tracking number is LB338235560GB.

By the way: I've received lots and lots of AirSure parcels from Royalmail withing the last few years, and they have always been delivered by DHL, not by GLS. There are other parcels though, not being sent via AirSure, that are delivered through GLS.

I'd be happy if someone with a connection to Royalmail could give us some hints why packets to Germany seem to not being despatched as they should currently  Any help is appreciated a lot. I'm waiting for this parcel urgently.

Many thanks and kind regards,

Lavey

there is a postal dispute on-going in Germany at the moment, as well as various rail and government actions. It simply could all be caught up in the that, even if not directly connected.

Germany http://www.royalmail.com/service-update/international" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Start date: 8 June 2015
End date: Ongoing
Negotiations with the workers union in Germany have been unsuccessful and as a result, Deutsche Post have announced that all members of the workers union are taking unlimited strike action with effect from Monday 8th June.
All Letter and Parcel Sorting Centres have been affected. Mail delivery staff have also been on strike since Tuesday 9th June. Delays are expected in the sorting and delivery of mail.

Hi TrueBlueTerrier,

being in Germany, of course I know about the strikes of SOME departments of our German DHL postal offices.

However, only a few regions of Germany are affected, replacement workers are put in place, and many postal workers aren't even allowed to strike because they have older contracts and are working directly for the Government. So the German Post is currently saying they could deliver everything without any delay at all in regions that are not affected and with a one or two day delay in affected regions. That's my current information from the news channels.

However, I'm just wondering why the parcels aren't even despatched from the UK. I can understand if they are laying around for a day or two in the Office of Exchange in Frankfurt without being handled. But I wonder why the UK isn't sending the post to Germany at all. There doesn't seem to be a strike in Heathrow? And there's a huge discrepancy between the statement of the German Post about a delay of one or two days and parcels being stuck at Heathrow for 6 days without being despatched at all. But maybe there's something I'm getting wrong. However, thanks a lot for trying to solve this puzzle, TrueBlueTerrier. I had hoped the post would at least be in Germany already and handled slowly instead of not being sent there at all.

Best greetings from Germany,

Lavey

It could be that the German Postal management have asked other countries not to despatch mail to Germany until they can cope with it. Mail might have built up at the German receiving offices, despite what management might be saying, and it is being stockpiled in UK until backlog is cleared.

You may have a point there, baldrick!

Although I'm still wondering about the time frame. Only in the course of the 8th of June was it decided to start with the first strikes in a few regions. My order - and the order of marekmoney - was sent out on the 4th of June and got stuck in Heathrow on the 5th. Most of the time my parcels have been despatched to Frankfurt the same day after having arrived in Heathrow. At the time our parcels got stuck there, the postal workers didn't even know themselves that they were going to start a strike the following week. So I wonder why nothing was despatched any more on the 5th, over the weekend or on the 8th of June when it wasn't decided to start a strike yet.

To me there are still many open questions, but of course I can only speculate. I guess I'm just grumpy because I'm waiting for an urgent parcel and don't know when or if it will arrive at all in the near future. Other than that I even solidarise with the postal workers who are earning much less than their colleagues. I'm just thinking about the people who sent out letters that need to reach the receiver in a certain timeframe like terminations, job applications, birthday presents, people waiting for their medication, judicially relevant letters, and so on.

have you tried twitter - its one of RM gems as they are quite proactive. You'll need to follow them to be able to send them a private message but they should be able to help:

Thanks for this hint, Terrier :Very Happy

I remember having read before that Royalmail is quite active on social networks. However, strangely enough while being an IT guy and working for an IT company I don't even have a facebook account

I revived a 5 year old twitter account though and tried to make contact with Royalmail. Let's see how it works out.

Many thanks again !

Edit:

OK. I asked for help about my parcel via Twitter, and they were really quick in responding ! But they seemed to be startled as well. I received the following answer: "Hello, I'm afraid we haven't had an update for this item since the 5/6, so I can't confirm its exact whereabouts. Hope it reaches you soon."

I replied again that I wasn't the only one and mentioned another tracking number with the same tracking data and that there seemed to be something weird going on. I didn't mention any strikes though, because the twitter messages have to be extremely short and because I didn't want to make them biased towards this solution. Don't know if they'll answer me again or not.

Edit 2:

OK. They replied again. This time referring me to the same "Germany strikes"-message on their webpage I was originally coming from, while telling me they had no idea if this could be the reason or not *sigh*. But I even asked them a further question. I'd just like to know what the status "MISSING DUN - HEATHROW DC" really means. I know what the missing DUN is, but I wonder if this means that the parcels are most likely still in Heathrow or if they might already have been sent to Germany without anybody scanning this process. The girls and guys at @Royalmail are great, but in this case they seem just as helpless as I am.

I've started an experiment now. I placed another order to see if it will also be stuck or let through by chance.

these two comments can sometimes shed some light on what may be the problem(i think the strikes are the actual problem but just in case)

What exactly is it that has been posted?

reason being certain items cannot be flown, they are not illegal just not allowed in the postal system bu air due to ATA regulations, so for example lithium batteries are not allowed, so a mobile phone that has a lithium battery may fall foul of these regulations, GLS and DHL interpret these regulations in different ways, DHL would ship the phone with battery more than likely with no problem where as GLS have recently been much much more stringent and at one point were pretty much refusing everything with a battery in it

in regards to the delays in germany Royal mail use GLS in germany as a hub for the rest of GLS deliveries in europe so if there is a delay getting items through customs it will be magnified as Royal mail are putting not only parcel for germany but also for the rest of europe as well, obviously these items wont be as handled as much but the fact that they are going through germany wont help

Hi zx135,

I'm a huge Eva Cassidy Fan and have a large collection with many rare items like certain promo CDs that have only been sent to some radio stations in foreign countries and so on. Most of the cool records, CDs and cassettes I've collected through the years came from the UK, the USA, New Zealand, Japan and some other countries. So I received literally hundreds of parcels via Royal Mail. And I can say that the "International Tracking Signed" parcels are delivered by GLS, however all the AirSure parcels don't need a signature, and they are always delivered by DHL. The postman just has to sign that he left it in the mailbox or gave it to the person who opened the door. That's why I've always liked AirSure much better than "International Signed" as those parcels usually arrive while I'm at work.

You may be right that Royal Mail uses GLS hubs for further transports to Europe, but this should be a big PLUS because the packet carriers like GLS, UPS, DPD and others are not striking. As far as I know only the German Post is striking, and DHL belongs to it, so only DHL should be affected. But maybe someone else has got newer information.

However, I've ordered some records again, and neither GLS nor DHL have ever had a problem with it. Once a parcel has been opened by customs in Germany and was delivered like 10 days later. But in this case the tracking at least showed that the parcel had been despatched to Germany and was being handled by German customs in the exchange office. This time it seems to be held in Heathrow, and even several days before the postmen and postwomen here even knew they were going to strike. That's what makes me wonder.

Very Great job!
Now are 8 Days in HEATHROW and notthing! Great job of transport company's.....
If DHL, GLS, Royal Mail or customs fail is for me not important....

I pay for the sending in 3-5 Days and not these fail.
