Unidentifiable Address?

Post by Lost_Cloud »

I was meant to receive a package on the 22nd of April but when I checked the tracking it came up with this;

Status: Returned to sender
We were unable to deliver item BZ557832883GB on the 22/04/15 14:09 as it was not possible to identify the delivery address. The item will be returned to STOCKPORT to be returned to sender.

I went round to my local postal office and they were perplexed with how the post man could have attempted to deliver an item if the address was unidentifiable, anyway after talking for a while I was advised to wait a while and get in contact with the person who sent me the item to see if they could send again should the item come back to them. The sender told me he had written a return address on the back and he would send it back to me when he received. On Wednesday the post office rang me and told me that the problem was that the sender had mis-wrote my address and they would have to return it to him, however the sender had already told me he spoke to his local office and they told him that the item had been badly packaged and the number of the address had become damaged and thus unidentifiable. I am now worried that either the post office does not actually have my package and have just told me this to give me piece of mind or that the sender is telling me a lie/his post office is just telling him that to give him piece of mind. As for the package it was sent 1st signed for so I assume that is how it will be sent back to him aswell? I was expecting him to receive it today yet on the tracking it says;

22/04/15 14:09 UNDELIVERED22/04/15 STOCKPORT LOCKER 1 AND 2
21/04/15 09:44 ACCEPTED AT POL TM Retail PE3 8DN

It has not moved from Stockport lockers 1 and 2 (wherever they are) for 2 days and I'm wondering will I get a update when its left/will the sender have to sign for the package even though it is being returned to him?

Thanks in advance.

Its not been sent using a tracked service so the next update to the tracking will only be after delivery is attempted at the senders return address, regardless of who is saying what happened, the sender is the one who is responsible for ensuring you get the item

The Post Office rang you ? Hopefully you mean Royal Mail Customer services, the 2 different stories are nothing to worry about with 130,000 staff and 58,000,000 items moving through the system, sometimes details get mixed.

Ok so how many days should I be waiting before I start to get worried? He sent it to me 1st signed for so should it be sent back that way? If so he should have received it by now right? So my next questions are;

How long should I wait before getting worried/asking for compensation?

How long does royal mail usually take before they send back to the sender?

The sender is the person who should claim for compensation

It can take upto a couple of weeks, if the return address is not there or illegible it will go to the national returns centre and they then try and figure out the sender that can take a few weeks, if the return address is there and readable it shouldn't take more than 4 or 5 days,

but as you are the recipient you really don't need to worry about where it goes or how long etc the sender is responsible for getting it to you, you should contact him for a refund or to send a replacement
