I was told this morning the paperwork for a Stage 3 has come through for me.

I had a Carpel Tunnel op back in March, had to have 4 weeks off, I did give 3 months notice that I would be off.

5 weeks ago I was taken ill at work, so after 3 hours of my shift I went home, a few days later I got rushed to hospital for an emergency blood transfusion (4 pints and not 1 contained vodka :sad: ) and had to stay in overnight, its taken me nearly a month to recover and I returned to work this week.

Whats the likelyhood of me not getting the sack?

BTW I'm on a Stage 2 because I went off sick with stress for 2 weeks due to B & H by a manager(a case that I won)

magic words industrial tribunual usually have some effect but I wouldn't wish one of them on anyone

Can't see RM's Solictors who'd try & get David Blunkett a driving licence wriggling out of that .Wouldn't look good in the papers , getting shopped to the papers a lot RM?, couldn't happen to nicer people.I think they'd like to sack you but are frightened of loose cannons ( their view)

Another case of double standards, i work at romford mail centre, managers off all the time never sacked.

IT STINKS!!!!!!!!

The managers have all become untouchable and can get away with murder!

I can't believe your manager(s) issued you with a stage 3, unless you had already incurred the stage 3 back in March.

Still, having said that, aren't managers supposed to use their discretion, or are they just too insensitive and have no calibre where you work?

These people are jeopardizing your job, and should be held to account for their decisions -- fugging bastards!

Surely you are within your rights to contest the Stage 2 if you were B & H by your manager and you won the case.

A manager who was interviewing me for a rescheduled stage 1, told me that he had received his stage one because he was off in hospital getting a blood clot removed from his brain! He did not administer the stage 1 to me, even though I had been off with the cold on the day he set the original interview!
I think it is basically who will be doing the interviewing really. Hope you get the right result mate it does seem there are mitigating circumstances against sacking you.

In a fair world no way should you get the sack - I'd get a senior union guy on this straight away and perhaps a solicitor on standby - might be worth a trip to Citizens Advice to get an independent viewpoint and they are free.

One of the strike breakers at my place has had a stage 3 and still there and he was only ever off due to a cold :shock:


He is also the most useless twat in the office, a wasted opportunity if you ask me :d'oh!

Isn`t a stage 3 known as an 'RTU' (Reasons to urge)? In which case you have the opportunity to discuss all that`s happened with the main man (head of ops?) at your place of work along with your union rep.

At Huddersfield the managers aren't allowed to use their discretion, they have a standing order to issue any stage when the paperwork comes through for it. The DOM won't allow managers to decide. There was one case at our office when he ordered a manager to issue a stage to a woman who hadn't had a sick day in 10, yes 10 YEARS, who was off for 6 month recovering from breast cancer. Guess who he supports in the strike?

LSM gave a stage 1 to someone who'd not taken a day off for 20yrs when he'd cancer @ a Central Lancs Zoo

All the area reps have been threatened . Still it keeps Area away from their pathetic little areas & territories so the system is Ok then.

Best one was a guy with deep vein thrombosis who was told you are on our budget now so you're on nights not earlies . For some reason he started wearing civvies not his uniform .
