We’ve employed more than 2,000 candidates from the disability employment organisation

We’ve reached a significant milestone in our support of disability employment organisation Remploy, employing 2,000 candidates through the initiative.

We are the first logistics company in the UK to reach this number, and only the third national organisation to achieve it overall.

Part of the team

The latest employees to join the company from the Remploy initiative are Anthony Allen and Stephen Curran, who are both based at the Yorkshire distribution centre in Wakefield.

Yvette Cooper MP for Normanton, Pontefract, Castleford and Knottingley, met with Stephen and Anthony, and heard about their role and Royal Mail’s partnership with Remploy.

Anthony and Stephen both help process parcels received from the Yorkshire area and prepare them for delivery to addresses across the UK.

Anthony says: ‘I enjoy working as part of the team here. Everyone has worked hard to help me gain more skills and confidence.’

Stephen added: ‘It's been good to learn about sorting the parcels and moving Yorks. You have to work to understand what to do and people always help when you need it.’

Support

Group HR director Jon Millidge said: ‘We’re delighted that we have reached this significant and important milestone with Remploy. It demonstrates our commitment to supporting people – no matter their background – with employment opportunities in the diverse communities Royal Mail serves in the UK.

‘We look forward to building on the great successes we’ve had with Remploy, to provide more employment and training opportunities for disabled people.’

Ms Cooper said: 'It’s great to see how Royal Mail is supporting disability employment through its active support of the Remploy programme in my constituency as well as across the UK.

'Partnerships such as this are vital in supporting communities and ensuring people with disabilities have the chance to gain key skills and employment opportunities.

'I really commend Royal Mail and Remploy for their hard work and hope they inspire more companies to support people with disabilities in this way.'

Most go to the WCM project but before that some have made it to the very top.
