Hello, any advice on my problem would be really welcome. I live on a communal stair with ten residential flats on it. The door buzzer entry system broke months ago and we've been waiting all that time for it to be fixed. During these last few months, our postman has been able to access the stairs using an old key someone passed to him years ago.
Now, the buzzer system was supposed to have been fixed last week. Instead of which, the lock has been changed (meaning the postman no longer has a valid key) and the buzzer system is even more broken. I live on the third floor and can't even tell when the postman is outside unable to gain access.
Does anyone have any suggestions what to do so as to be sure I am getting all my mail? I rent, my landlord is, frankly, old and not really up to dealing with this and the problem of door entry doesn't look like it's going away any time soon? I'd like to get a new key to my postman but have no idea how to do that beyond sitting on the front steps waiting for him all day.
Thanks for any advice,

We're not supposed to hold keys to access flats, etc. Is there a possibility of mounting a secure box on the wall outside the communal door (making it clear it's for your mail only - don't want all 10 flats in there!).
Other than that, the postman is supposed to treat your mail as 'undeliverable - no access' if he cannot get through a security door. You really need to insist the landlord gets it sorted as it is his responsibility, no matter what his age. He'd soon get it sorted if he thought it may cause you to start withholding rent payments, and that is certainly what I would consider doing in your circumstances.

I dont think there us any rules against us holding a key to close doors, willing to be proven wrong on that onewannabeek wrote:We're not supposed to hold keys to access flats, etc
best suggestion would be to get two keys cut go to your local delivery office and hand them in, that will ensure if original is misplaced theres a back up there if needed

Ah, maybe that's just my office then. It's a silly rule IMO and only made so that there's no potential compo claim against RM should someone say the postie left the door open or let a stranger in. It seems impossible we all work for the same company when there are so many variations on the rules in different places!
In that case, I'd just pop into the local Delivery Office - the bod behind the counter will know if they allow the posties to have keys or not.
