Intl Tracked - Destination India - Delivered Australia!!

Post by Ex-RM Customer »

I sent an expensive shortwave radio in very secure packaging, very clearly addressed INDIA, using the international tracked service upon the advice of the post office on the safest means to send it. After having paid the 12.90 to send it to INDIA and retained the receipt for postage which very clearly states INDIA I find when I type the ref into the royal mail tracking system I find my Item has 'SUCCESSFULLY' BEEN DELIVERED TO AUSTRALIA. All I got from the helpline was the response "Oh my god its been delivered in Australia!" and then profuse apologies from the poor girl who was obviously incredibly embarassed. This is a new level of incompetence for RM as far as I am concerned. I want my radio back and I want the money I paid for secure international postage back!

Please can someone tell me how on earth this could happen. The envelope was secure. The letters INDIA were written an INCH HIGH. How the fudge does it end up being
delivered in Australia??

For an official response please go to Royal Mail.

For an unofficial response, Royal Mail will be investigating but one possible scenario is that the tracking barcode fell off your item and became attached to a different parcel bound for Australia.

Have you attempted to contact the destination address and see if it turned up sans the tracking code. To be fair Indias Postal system is mainly non-automated and it could take a while to get there without the tracking number.

Thanks for your reply I didn't consider the barcode falling off onto another parcel scenario, but if that has happened there's a good chance of my radio disapearing into the
black hole of kolkata never to be seen again. According to the recipient of the package the airmail to India is quicker than the airmail to Austrailia. I hope Royal Mail can explain, it has caused a lot of distress to all parties involved.
