Passports on saturday - RM SD

Post by George710 »

Hello - Quick question -

Do the passport office pay the extra fee to ''Royal Mail Special Guaranteed before 1pm'' for saturday delivery?

Has anyone received theirs via RM SD on a saturday or any of you Royal Mail/PF guys any idea?

Thanks

Hi there. It may not be the same across every area of the country but I'm fairly certain that Royal Mail don't normally deliver new passports any more, only the old ones if being returned to you. As I understand it, the courier company that handles them does offer a Saturday Guarantee service.

The passport office don't pay the fee, it just comes special delivery if they have used that service, sometimes it's only sent recorded, it all depends on the area you live and sometimes they use another courier company

Just for info, the fee is just to ensure the item is delivered before the guaranteed time on Saturday, if it is sent as normal special delivery it is still supposed to be delivered on the Saturday just there is no guarantee for a before 1pm delivery, if it's getting delivered to a business that has a shut notice for Saturdays then it wouldn't be attempted till the Monday but they should all be attempted on a Saturday regardless of guaranteed or not

Here in London, passports are delivered by DX normally, not RM.

Mine was delivered on a Sunday. It was just on the mat, so not sure who delivered it.

I ticked the box for Special Delivery for my passport and it was delivered by a bloke in his car on a Sunday (courier)

I complained and got my special delivery fee back after I pointed out they did not use Royal Mail Special Delivery as I had requested

Apparently they do it all the time and only refund if people bother to complain
