TNT and adressee unknown
I'm a recent employee of RM but asking this as a customer. I received a letter to someone who no longer lives at this address (it was actually delivered to a neighbour by TNT). When you are returning these letters to sender, do RM handle this or do I have to drop it at a TNT depot? ...and out of curiosity, if RM do handle it do they receive compensation from TNT?
Cheers

If its posted in a mail box, it will be treated as unpaid post which will be surcharged by revenue protection, we had a briefing about this.

Yes because it never entered Royal Mail's system TNT should be taking responsibilty for it.

Most interesting.NWpostie wrote:Yes because it never entered Royal Mail's system TNT should be taking responsibilty for it.
At the risk therefore of bringing us full circle, what does one do with such mail therefore?

Re: TNT and adressee unknown
The correct answer to that one is contact tnt and ask them what they want to do with it as its nothing to do with RM what so ever,harry84 wrote:Most interesting.NWpostie wrote:Yes because it never entered Royal Mail's system TNT should be taking responsibilty for it.

Though if its incorrectly entered into royal mails system we are going to attempt to ensure we reclaim the correct return postage from tnt and hopefully the £1 surcharge for it at the same time

If it's just a return to sender and unopened it's not surcharged. as long as it has not been opened and there is a return address it is returned to the sender.

Re: TNT and adressee unknown
remember we are talking about the new tnt deliveries here that have been incorrectly returned via us, not a letter than has been sent through our system in the first place, so no postage not even DSA rate has ever been paid to RM at any time for these itemscazspence wrote:If it's just a return to sender and unopened it's not surcharged. as long as it has not been opened and there is a return address it is returned to the sender.

Exactly right. You notice any of these get them in the surcharge pouch back to your local mail centre for chargingzx135 wrote:remember we are talking about the new tnt deliveries here that have been incorrectly returned via us, not a letter than has been sent through our system in the first place, so no postage not even DSA rate has ever been paid to RM at any time for these itemscazspence wrote:If it's just a return to sender and unopened it's not surcharged. as long as it has not been opened and there is a return address it is returned to the sender.

Re: TNT and adressee unknown
Hi, all TNT mail that enters the Royal Mail system has to be charged, it is not the normal rate, its about £1.80 handling charge and then 9p to deliver it, this is even when TNT have delivered it and the customer puts it back into a PLB (Public Letter Box) with "not at this address" on it, it will just go into the mail center as collection, come back to your office with "Not at this address", that's when you extract it and send it to Revenue Protection who will charge it, it will then be sent back to you again after its been charged, all you do then is kill it off!!
If its still showing CL102 on the TNT label then its not been charged, just look for the delivered by Royal Mail sticker "DSA" which should have been put over the TNT one, we can then deal with it as a Royal Mail item.
You should have a selection on your IPS with TNT surcharge on it, if not tell your gaffer to put one there so we can claim as much off them as possible, then everyday clear them to the PHG who should have a revenue pouch going into the mail center. TNT are making ££££££ from us because not all delivery offices are doing this, trust me TNT don't like it!!
Hope this helps.

Re: TNT and adressee unknown
Thanks for the clarification and apologies for my misunderstanding. I thought the subject was DSA mail sent via TNT.bringon4dayweeks wrote:even if its not entered into the royal mail system before ? arent we talking about tnt own deliverys in big citiescazspence wrote:If it's just a return to sender and unopened it's not surcharged. as long as it has not been opened and there is a return address it is returned to the sender.
So am I correct in saying that it would be surcharged if a TNT Final Mile delivery but that one could RTS via a Post Box if TNT DSA delivered Final Mile by RM?
