Post office peeps please help sort this out

Post by Sidley »

Just got back from posting an lp and a single for £5.65. Last week I sent 2 lps 1st class within the UK for £3, the difference this time was they used a box to check the dimensions and said it was too big hence the higher price. On my return I have measured an identical cardboard mailer and it's dimensions are 35cm x 34 x a variable depth of up to 3cm. This would put it in the small parcels category would it not?

I can only think that someone got their geometry wrong when constructing the box or they didn't take into account that a parcel up to 8cm thick would not fit right into the corners, therefore poking above the top of the box.

I am going off the dimensions quoted on the P.O. Website for a small parcel.

Anyone any ideas?

The box we have is for the deep version of small parcel - 350 x 250 x 160mm. We have a plastic template for the wide version of small parcel - 450 x 350 x 80mm. Sounds like your item qualified as a small parcel under the wide dimensions

Not sure if PO counters have a box for both versions but I've only ever seen boxes for the deep version in Royal Mail
