Hi,
Yesterday I posted a parcel by Special Delivery.
The tracking details say that a delivery was attempted at 13.00 today but no one was in, and a card was left.
Now, most of the Royal Mail literature says its guaranteed "by" 1pm, however there are pages on royalmail.com that say:
"We’ll deliver your parcel before 1:00 pm the next working day, guaranteed or we’ll refund your money"
I have today submitted an online claim, but wondering what people's thoughts are on this.
Thanks

Re: Special Delivery "BY" 1pm
If you genuinely want my honest opinion I think you're being a little cheeky.
If the customer wasn't in at 1300 they wouldn't have been at 1259 either.
Also if you read the specific terms and conditions it states...
by...not before.

3. Performing the services
3.1 Unless clauses 3.2, 3.3 or 3.4 apply, we will deliver all items by the delivery time,
(as set out below):
3.1.1 for Special Delivery Next Day, 1pm on the next working day after handover
or on a Saturday if you choose to have a Saturday guaranteed delivery;
by...not before.

I think it's a little out of order, claiming a refund. There really is no need IMHO.

CT10 please read the rules specific to this area of the forum. Failure to understand and follow could mean dismissal for bringing Royal Mail into disrepute - especially with the comment I deleted if your manager had seen it

Fair enough. RM have been good to me so far, so I wouldn't argue the point - just wanted to get some other POVs.
IMO the wording on the web site should be changed to be inline with the T&Cs though. In business every minute really does count.

You're entitled to make a claim and I don't blame you. You'll probably find Royal Mail failed to deliver in time and ought to be penalised under their guarantee.

A postie could be attempting delivery at 12.45. Knocking on the door, looking round the side etc. Then he writes a card out. It might be gone 1pm before he actually sends the `not delivered` message on his scanner.

Re: Special Delivery "BY" 1pm
Why would you try delivery for 15 minutes, knock door if no answer notice left and tap not delivered, 5 minutes max, if no signs of life I was away quicker than that.

Re: Special Delivery "BY" 1pm
That's assuming it was a PDA delivering the item. If it had gone on paper, it might just say 1pm but was delivered earlier in the day.
I sincerely doubt your claim will be upheld.
