special delivery. Not scanned in mail processing centre?

Post by nalasambi »

Hi all
I posted a high value item yesterday using SD, tracking nr is ad823184851GB . My friend told me it didn't arrive, as her postie came by with the other mail and parcels for her.
I called RM call centre in Sunderland, they told me the parcel did not leave the PO
I went to my PO asking what was up, they simply said the parcel was collected and according to her iphone app it was out for delivery. They were not helpful, only telling me it left using the iphone tracker
I am tweeting RM at the moment, who now confirm that the parcel was not scanned in mail processing centre. What does this mean? I hope it is not lost!!!

using this site:

http://www.royalmail.com/trackdetails" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

it only shows:

02/10/13 15:02 ACCEPTED AT POL 185 Earls Court SW5 9RB

no if the item was sent as special delivery there should be several more scans not just the one,

1 recieved into mail centre
2 dispatched out of mail centre
3+4 possibly another 2 mail centre scans if sent elsewhere in country
5 recieved in delivery office
6 out on delivery

Given that at least 4 scans missed and only scan not missed being the one in the post office the problem is somewhere between drop off in post office and collection by driver and handing over to mail centre,

the item more than likely IS NOT out for delivery

heres the but though:

How much did you pay to send the item?

The tracking details website for Royal Mail http://www.royalmail.com/trackdetails" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is still showing it at the POL.

Not sure why a Post Office would use an IPhone tracking system as thats not an official RM system for employees/agents. Its a customer resource rather than an official one.

My guess is it will turn up and be delivered, however the good news is that as they have failed to deliver it to specifications you can claim the cost of postage back, (hope you kept receipts), and if it does not turn up, if you have all the paperwork you will be covered by the compensation guarantee which is £500 for the basic SD service.

Thanks for your replies. I paid £28.80, as it is fully insured (very valuable items inside).
Is there any point in me going back to the PO today to see what happened. (probably not, as they were not helpful the first time)

Thats for a 2- 10 kg item insured up to £2500 - not an easy item to lose behind the counter :Very Happy so It should turn up at some time - but still claim thats a hefty amount of money.

Yes, I needed the high insurance, so now fingers crossed it will pop up tomorrow.
RM tweeted me that they are hoping for an update later tonight.
Think I will stay away from my PO today and see what happens overnight, they are usually very friendly and I go there loads, but today, it was definitely bad CS, only checking the status on the iphone app and dismissing my worries :Boo hoo! when I told them I thought it was stuck somewhere.

ok was just checking that price paid was indeed for a special delivery service, because the way the tracking looks it looks like a recorded delivery parcel, they actually lied to you, it would not show as out for delivery on any iphone app, it would just show as what youve seen and what i posted earlier so i would definitely be asking questions there

Tracking number AD sounds like Recorded, not Special.

What does it say exactly on your receipt? Something sounds far from right here...

I send SD parcels quite often, I checked some older receipts, they all started with AD.
I states "special d by 1"
There is an update on the site now. Apparently it is in jubilee mail centre, ready for dispatch to Nottingham. Fingers crossed there will be a delivery tomorrow.

The current roll of Special Delivery stickers I use start with AD. Typically all signed that I send for are either KF (normal rolls) or KR (the rolls with extra barcodes).

So nalasambi, looks like you're due a full postage refund - for failure to deliver within specified timescales for Special Delivery.

The form is available from http://www.royalmail.com/sites/default/ ... 2%20_0.pdf

If you don't do it already, every time you send a Special Delivery item check the date and time it was delivered, if it is not delivered by 1pm on the day it should have been, get your refund form in and enjoy the cheque from RM for failing to provide the advertised service.

Yes, I completed the form already

When I was in the PO yesterday, the girl said it "by 1pm" does not mean before 1 pm.... I asked what she meant :hmmmm
She said 3 pm is acceptable too. Ahum!
