LOST SPECIAL DELIVERY ITEM!!

Post by JayMidds »

I sent my passport using Special Delivery to the Vietnam Embassy on 06/06/13.

I called the embassy today and they have not received it.

I also checked 'track and trace' on the Royal Mail website and all it says is........
"We have your item. Item ZX*********GB was posted at 34 Padgate Lane WA1 3RU on 06/06/13 and is being progressed through our network for delivery.

Today, the Postmaster at my local Post Office showed me proof that my item was collected from his Post Office on the day that i sent it.

How often do Special Delivery items get lost and how likely am i to receive compensation (£75 for a replacement passport, £93 visa fee, and £6.22 Special Delivery charge).

This has really upset me!!! :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad

We have no affiliation with either Royal Mail or the Communications Workers Union (CWU), except that most of our members work for Royal Mail and/or are members of the CWU.

Its relatively rare but check this page out to see if it gives more details on where your item is.

http://www.royalmail.com/trackdetails" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - it has a more detailed history than the normal page.

If you paid for special delivery and have the receipts extremely likely

Not sure about that as it depends on whether they are covered or not - your probably best asking on the official Royal Mail site, this is a posties unofficial forum and we can only offer advice and guidance not definitive answers.

I would contact Royal Mail ASAP on 08457 740 740 they are open till 6pm.

It sounds like it was accepted but there is nothing else since then which is strange as there should be a later scan saying accepted at the Mail Centre:

For example - read in reverse last scan at top

13/05/13 06:15 ON DELIVERY PECKHAM PDO

Hi TrueBlueTerrier,
I took your advice and called the number you gave me.
The lady I spoke to was helpful, she told me that its a big deal when they 'misplace' I.D. documents and its even a bigger deal because it was sent Special Delivery.
They have a dedicated team who deal with I.D. document loss and the matter of my 'lost' passport has been passed to them for investigation. I will get a call back with any updates within 48 hours!
Thanks for your help - I'll keep you updated!! :confused :confused :confused

Credit to Royal Mail, the ID Doc team are very efficient. I had an issue with my wife's Canadian passport being sent up to us from London via Special. I logged the query about 4.30pm one (week)day and had a call from the ID Docs team just after 9 the following morning. Happily my situation resolved well.

Best of luck!
