speed of second class

Post by xzx »

2nd class packet from Southampton to London.

If I want it to arrive on Saturday, and it is posted on Thursday, is there any chance it could arrive on Friday? (because I absolutely do not want it to arrive on Friday). Would use 1st class from Friday, but sender can't go to the post office that day.

There are no guarantees with the post (unless you use Special Delivery) so it may get delivered the next day or it may get delivered a week later. If you truly wanted it delivered by a specific time then you would use SD.

Yes I know, but the majority of items do get delivered, just wondering whether there is any chance of a 2nd class packet arriving in 1 day because I do not want this to happen.

situation is; sender is going abroad on Thursday so must post it by then, but I am away until Sat. There is someone around at my address on Friday who must not be allowed to see this packet.

If it could possibly arrive in 1 day then I'll have to figure some other way to get it..

Is it possible to have it sent by special delivery on thursday to an alternative address like...work address/wherever you'll be on friday?

I don't know what is so secret that you wouldn't want someone else to know about...............unless it's divorce papers then probably have an idea (although that could be because I've been married so long and the wife knows everything that I'm getting in the post) :nervous

I've had a second class postal item delivered next day over 50 miles away a few days before Xmas so there's no guarantee as to when it will arrive I'm afraid, they just specify 'within X days'.

I had a packet that had written on it: 'Please do not deliver on monday. Please deliver on tuesday at earliest'. As it was a monday I showed it to my manager and he agreed it should be delivered the next day.

Maybe you could try this, although there are no guarantees

I live in Manchester and the majority of my family is in Sheffield.

Anecdotally, quite often a 2nd class letter posted in either direction will arrive the following day. I also sent a book in a jiffy bag as a second class packet the other week and this arrived the following day after posting.

can you get it delivered to a neighbour? you can get it delivered to a local post office for collection but I think a notification card will come through your door to let you know its there!
