Random question
Hi, this is a bit of a random question but thought I'd ask, whenever I have any letters delivered there is always pen mark circling my address, just wondered why that was?

It may be quite a few things, the circling shouldn't affect service though!
First suggestion is that you're using an incorrect postcode or non-standard address line - look up your address on http://www.royalmail.com/postcode-finder" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and check the address there is the one you're using for your post - the circled bit may be to say to the postie "ignore part of the address, go on this bit."
It may be that the postie is doing it to jog his memory of something too, if you get multiple items on the same day are they all circled? Do you have dogs or slip hazards or anything that someone coming to your door to deliver might want to remind themselves to be aware of? If you're in for instance a house that has been split into an upstairs and downstairs flat it may be that it is done to distinguish between the flats.
Another potential suggestion is if you've not been there for very long the previous occupant may have a redirection in place and whoever sorts the mail off is doing this to make sure they don't accidentally redirect some of your mail by mistake.
Probably the easiest way to find out for certain is to keep an eye out next time you're in the house when the mail is delivered and catch your postie at the door and have a friendly chat and enquire
