Is track and trace accurate?

Post by LuSmith »

Hi there,

I'm a little concerned about an important letter I sent recorded delivery on the 6th june. Upon checking track and trace now as I hadn't heard anything back from these people yet (though not sure if I expect to yet) I am still left with the status that it's on it's way being progressed through the network for delivery. Is it possible it still so more than a month later? If the status doesn't get updAted that often then that's fair enough but it would be nice if we at least get the service we pay for (ie told when it's delivered)

Any responses would be appreciated. Thanks!

For recorded items they are not accurate. Mind you thats because of the service that comes with Recorded not because of any failing of the Track and Trace system.

Usually Recorded items are scanned, and therefore appear in the track and trace on perhaps 3 occasions.

1. When it enters the system at a Post Office.
2. When its delivered and a signature is obtained, but see below.
3. If the addressee is absent then it may be scanned to say a card has been left.

In your case it may be that the receiver is a large business and if so, in these cases it can be days or even weeks before the system is updated. For instance the Passport offices round the country get literally 100s and sometimes 1000s of items needing a signature. Sometimes, although they are delivered on time, the system is not updated for a few days or weeks just because of the number of items.

Recorded delivery is not a trackable service, for that you should of sent it Special Delivery. As TBT said it is only scanned at the PO, when the recipient has signed for it. It does not get treated specially it comes through the system with the regular mail ie 1st/2nd class.

Well it is a large company so I imagine they get a lot of post, yeah. I know its not trackable or anything but figured it might tell me when it would be sent. If its that it's Just slow to update then fair enough, I just wondered whether there would be any point in contacting royal mail to see whether it got there?
