Stolen mail van

I've been waiting for a small packet which was supposedly posted on the 13th December and which had a delivery estimate window of 17th-21st Dec.
I expected a bit of a delay due to increased xmas traffic so wasn't too concerned until our Neighbourhood Watch coordinator sent round a message from the police saying that an unmarked Royal Mail van delivering packets and parcels was stolen on the 20th Dec from just down the road from us. It also said that the van was later recovered and a 20 year old was arrested and then released on bail but didn't mention if the packets and parcels had been recovered.

It's entirely possible that my packet was on that van so I thought I would tell the supplier all of this and let them chase Royal Mail but is there anything else I need to do?

Apart from wait and see if it does show and then if it doesn't, contact the place where you purchased it from and ask them for a replacement. Besides the unusual circumstances, it's not really any different to it just going awol :neutral: The sender has a contract with Royal Mail, which Royal Mail have as yet to fulfil. If the item doesn't arrive, the sender is the one who has to make the claim for the lost item and Royal Mail will be the ones that would do an investigation (if they could be bothered).
Does this rag smell of chloroform to you?

I thought I would wait to see if it had been caught up in the pre-Christmas post but we've had 2 deliveries now and other stuff bought online yesterday arrived today so I'm guessing it is 'lost'.
Out of interest, if the contents of the van were recovered would the police hold on to them as evidence or for forensic testing?

IF it was recovered still in the original packaging, then I think they would just take what they needed from it and then send it on. However, I think the chances of it being found unopened are slim :sad:
