SD advice, "Your item is currently progressing..."

Post by chickenhawk »

As above, I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice as to what the likely status of my incoming package might be. It was a guaranteed by 1pm today Special Delivery but did not arrive, it was shipped early Thursday morning (10:00 am 08/12/11) and spent yesterday and today with the message...

"Your item is currently progressing through our network for delivery" on the tracking.

Usually my post and courier deliveries are pretty timely and well tracked but this lack of information has me quite worried about the status of the package. Can anyone help shed a little light on this and offer any advice as to what I should do next?

Thanks in advance.

i would call customer services on 08457 740740 they will be able to use the tracking number and may be able to give you a little bit more information, ie if it was scanned at the incoming mail centre and not been scanned out of it, it may be stuck, also many offices in scotland closed yesterday, so while the special may have been accepted in the morning the post office may have closed before the post office was cleared by the royal mail driver and it may not have moved till today, there were a lot of closures over the country due to power failures and quite a few post offices through out scotland have remained closed today due to lack of power

Do you mind me asking where you are in the country? We in Scotland did have some adverse weather yesterday that may have held things up. Although most of the posties were out and battling the elements. It might be an idea to call your local delivery office, just to see if there's anything there for you. It could be that it has been misaddressed or a card hasn't been left. Would also double check that the sender has the number correctly, it's quite unusual for special deliveries to go missing.

Thanks for the responses, I am in Lancashire, Clitheroe to be more precise, the weather was blustery but nothing serious.

Our trusty posty managed to deliver our mail today as usual including a large lightweight box that almost took him off his feet in the wind so I think it was business as usual.

It was a delivery from Amazon with the same address as a few standard delivery items that were made this week, I double checked the address I ordered it under. If the address is wrong it's because someone put the wrong label on it at Amazon I'd imagine, but for the time being I'l assume that part is correct.

ok if it was amazon that could make a slight difference, i would suggest calling our customer services on above number and they will tell you if its been recieved at a mail centre as of yet, Amazon last year did this sort of thing, they maked items as dispatched passed reference numbers to royal mail which showed they had been dispatched but in fact were still sitting in their warehouse, if customer services says it has reached a mail centre then its our fault its late if it hasnt chances are its amazon who have not dispatched yet

That's good of them isn't it, essentially marking it as RM's problem even though it hasn't been passed to RM yet. Amazon claimed it is "Stuck in Transit" which just sounds like the easy answer to give and they probably wouldn't know if it was sitting down in the Amazon warehouse unless they look into it further. Either way I'll give RM CS department a call and see what they can tell me about it, though being the weekend I guess I'm stuck until Monday.

Many thanks for the help.

Good to know, the package turned up about an hour ago though I checked the tracking both early this morning and about an hour before delivery and there had been no update other than the "progressing through our delivery network", so all in all I'm happy as the item in question was a gift for someone next Tuesday, hopefully the tracking isn't always that lacking as I would;ve been quite happy to wait as long as I knew roughly where it was, the not knowing part is what gets you worried when you need an item and are running short on time.

Very happy they delivered it on a Saturday though, didn't want to stew on this over the weekend.

Thanks for all the help.

Many thanks for the update and glad you got it OK in the end.

Just throwing this out there but there has been a story bubbling under the radar about Royal Mail migrating all their software from one server to a cloud based system, apparently it has been messing peoples on line payments of postage labels etc. It may be possible that your tracking may have suffered from the same problem. :hmmmm

I had noticed a statement about that on the RM site from the CEO so it's possible that was the cause, though it seemed to be regarding accidental duplicate payments that had been taken, being a more important issue it might just be that it took priority over some tracking issues and they didn't mention them (or were unaware of them). Still my service in the past with RM has been exceptionally good and my Postie is a pleasure to deal with even though he probably has quite a bit of mail to lug around for my household so I'm not going to let this mar my opinion just yet.

I will use Special Delivery again at some point in the future (this time allowing more time just in case), hopefully the tracking is working then.

Thanks again.

it still amazes me that in the run up to the most profitable and busiest time of the year, that we decide to update all our systems to the new cloud based syatem and totally screw it up.

whoever diceded to do this needs shooting at the first possible appointment, it has made us a laughing stock nationwide and given the other delivery companies a chance to sell their products to our customers who are fed up with it.

come on RM, next time you fancy changing something a major as the servers etc, do it in july / august when the whole of Britain is enjoying their holidays :)

Hi

I sent my phone for recycling using Special Delivery next day 1pm and it was not received by the company. The tracking information on the website simply says "Your item is currently progressing through our network for delivery"
I went down to my local post office where a woman told me that it had reached the local sorting office but not delivered.
I was wondering if this was a problem and if there's a chance that I could loose my phone?

Thanks

What does the tracking info say when you put the number into this link?

http://www.royalmail.com/trackdetails" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Does this rag smell of chloroform to you?
