Missing Mail

Post by Foxbatt »

I have recently become concerned that mail is going missing in the KT19 area. I posted (on different days) 2 birthday cards from BN23 to our son-in -law, which were never received. Also a birthday card posted in Norwich failed to arrive from family friends. Earlier in the year August to be precise another birthday card posted in Norwich failed to arrive at KT19 area. This clearly indicates the mail appears to go missing between the main collection centre and the mail sorting and delivery.

I have made contact with Customer services informing me that I have to wait 15 working days before the mail is considered lost. I have made out a claim, but there is nowhere for me to express my concerns that mail is being interfered with. I have to say all the birthday cards contained money or vouchers and I understand that these should not have been sent through the mail without being Recorded. However, what ever my short commings are in this respect I have always respected the job the postmen/women do to get the mail through. I am bitterley dissapointed that my trust has been abused.

I do hope someone on this site takes note of my concerns and hopefully reports or investigates them.

In all fairness I am afraid that is highly unlikely. Whilst every decent postie on this forum will condemn in the strongest possible terms anyone stealing from, delaying, or destroying post, there is nothing we, as a Forum can do. We are an unofficial forum that attempts to give customers the benefit of "inside" knowledge of how the system operates, and to give them an insight into the workings of Royal Mail.In fact Royal Mail are apparently not that enamoured of us for some reason.

My best advice would be to contact Customer Services again and ask to speak to the POISS/Security Desk - (POISS = Post Office Investigation and Security Services). However, I am fairly sure that if there is a spate of missing mail in a certain area, then they will be informed and start investigating, but if you contact them via Customer Services they may be able to offer help or advice, or perhaps even start an investigation, though of course that decision is entirely in their hands.

There's also the Twitter account (@RoyalMail I think) as another possible route for a complaint.
