Last Collection Times

Post by Terryk »

I have just discovered that the last collection time in Reading has moved back to 7pm on weekdays and 1.30pm on Saturdays (it used to be 7.30pm and 3pm). This happened in the last few weeks when the "last collection boxes" were moved from the old Reading Mail Centre to the new Reading Delivery Office. As far as I can tell this has not been advertised and most of the plates on the boxes around town still refer to the old boxes at RMC being the last collections in the area.

It wasnt all that long ago that the last collection was at 9.30pm!

My questions are
1) Is 7pm now typical for the last collection time from a major town or city?
2) As the mail all goes to Swindon is there a later collection available at the mail centre there?

There's usually a later time for collections at the MCs, someone from Swindon will be along I'm sure to give a definate answer.

When i first started, 20 years ago, a lot of the mail was still being moved by rail and the last collection time for post was 2130(9:30) but its been 1930(7:30) in our town for a number of years. We would transport the mail in our own fleet of vehicles but now the large mail hubs come and collect most of it.

1. 5pm in my town and we are one of the biggest non cities in the North.
2. Unless they have a Callers Office or Customer Service Office you won't be able to drop any mail off without prior arrangements and/or a contract.
3. They may have a Post Box set up outside and you would have to check times there although at present most DO/SO and MC collection times are now 7pm

Ps we did try and warn everyone about the reduction in service levels in 2007 - and I am sorry to say its only going to get worse over the next few years. :cfo
