Hi,
I sent a parcel by 48hr Tracked. The parcel disappeared without trace despite having a return address on it. When querying it at the post office under the STATUS column a minute after the post office had accepted it for posted another addition was added that said COLLECTION SUPPLEMENT CHARGE. No one at the post office or on the complaints phone line has any idea what that is: they all said they had never seen it before. The parcel was definitely below the weight of the amount paid for postage. This prompts the following two questions:
1) What is COLLECTION SUPPLEMENT CHARGE
and
2) Where will my parcel have disappeared to if it has a postage label and a return label on it? Surely the post office must do something with these parcels?

The charge line will be because you purchased postage online and didn't tick the "drop off at post office" box. If you'd ticked it you'd have had the charge included with the postage, because you didn't you were automatically billed for it when you took it to the post office. This will not have affected the parcel in any way.
What may have happened is that your label came off entirely in which case neither address would be visible and it'd be sent to Belfast for inspection to try and determine what should be done with it. It may have been damaged too, or stuck in a container.
What does the tracking say - "Accepted at Parcelshop" will be the post office. Any entries after that point are an indication of how much further it got before something happened that prevented tracking updating.
Regardless, get a claim form in for lost items - it certainly won't do any harm and may help if it has lost the address label

Many thanks for your response and my apologies for the delay in acknowledging it. I had definitely chosen the option using the post office as I don't have a printer and therefore get a QR code and that was used when the parcel was dropped off at the post office. The parcel has no further updates after the collection supplement charge was added and the depot, which is right next to the post office I used, said that they wouldn't have it there.
