Tracked 24: Romford MC -> Bethnal Green DO, "Unable to Attempt Delivery" ?

Post by Leffe »

Hello,

An urgent large letter was dispatched to me yesterday via Tracked 24, although it was meant to be sent via Special 1pm instead.. Anyway, this is what my tracking looks like:
Thursday 23 November 2023
14:24
Unable to Attempt Delivery
Bethnal Green DO

01:19
Item Received
Romford MC

Wednesday 22 November 2023
18:44
Item Received
London Central MC

13:51
Sender has despatched item
The tracking never showed the usual 'Due to be delivered today', and the tracking header remained on 'In Transit'. Despite refreshing the tracking every few hours, the 'Unable to Attempt Delivery' update did not actually appear in the tracking till around 5.30pm, even though it states 14:11. The 'In transit' header has now changed to 'Pending', and if I try to click the options for re-delivery (I wanted to see if I could collect it from the DO), it states that there are no options available, even though that feature was working throughout the day.

I should also add, my postman came by our house around midday and did not not have the letter in question.

What is going on here? What does "Unable to Attempt Delivery" even mean? If that latest status update was supposedly from the DO, does that mean that the letter at least made it to the local DO, or not necessarily? I've never seen this happen with a tracked letter/package before so not sure what the deal is. Any insight appreciated, I'm a little stressed as there's a document inside I need urgently.

Thank you.

The "unable to attempt delivery" probably means the postie run out of time and had to head back to the office. I don't know if it'll go out again with the postie tomorrow. Is it a large item (larger than a shoebox size)?

The postie did come by my house though, at midday - he didn't have the letter in question. The tracking also didn't show as being out for delivery like it normally does, so my guess is its either still in Romford or hopefully at least in Bethnal Green. As for the size, it's a large letter, a little thicker than a normal business envelope.

Edit: 24th Nov @ 10.11am: No change to tracking page, and still no 'Due to be delivered today' status update, which normally appears for me around 7.30am. Is there a chance this will arrive today? I hope so

There is a chance.

From what you posted it looks like your normal postie did not have it and it went out by what we call the LATs or what or the late shift. Hopefully, your local office is an LAT Hub because that would increase the chance of it arriving today.

:shhhhh Don't you just love the way these improvements are working so well.

Update 24 Nov 12:30: Postie walked past without any mail for me again, but we had a quick chat and he said that he and his colleagues are currently refusing to handle most letters at the DO due to being underpaid, hence no mail for the last 2 days. He said there's a chance a third party might deliver it later today, or tomorrow.

Frustrating, but I do completely sympathise with him.

Fingers crossed it arrives asap

Might be worth going down to the delivery office or tweeting RM as there's no valid reason why delivery of a Tracked item hasn't been attempted

Still no mail!

I got in contact with RoyalMailHelp twitter handle at midday and I'm yet to hear back. I also went to the the DO at 4pm today when it re-opened, the member of staff who attended to me basically shrugged his shoulders and showed me the same tracking info i have on my phone, on his monitor. He said maybe it will be delivered tomorrow but he has no idea, and can't really help me any further. Sigh, fingers crossed for tomorrow.

25th @ 10:48am: I just got an iOS notification from the official RM app stating that the letter was due for delivery today (timestamped 8:15am) - things are looking up! Hopefully my next update is shortly, with document in hand!

Edit: It arrived via a guaranteed special delivery type van!
