Royal Mail sent me brand new grey mail sacks this time, and they have a Velcro strap.
Googling I cannot see any relevant mention of Velcro on the Royal Mail website. Evidently USPS have been using these for years: https://about.usps.com/postal-bulletin/ ... -s10c.html
All my sacks get a bag label attached round the neck of the sack with a cable tie as shown in RM's videos such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AWSOXULUl8 so I don't know how/why I would use the velcro strap. Maybe they are more for when the grey sacks are in internal RM use?
Regards
Peter

Do they still have the loops at the top that they hung from frames by?

its in a bid to get rid of plastic cable ties from what i was told. Cost saving or carbon garbage.
we were seeing a lot of bags without the loops in them as of late but no Velcro on them.

Re: New design of grey mailbag with Velcro strap
Could I suggest using string to tie the label to the strap before sealing the sack? That reduces plastic waste and happily makes it easier for Royal Mail to process as opening a velcro strap is easier than trying to cut a very tight tie rap. It would also help reduce any chance of damage to the contents by the postie having to manhandle the sack into a position where they can cut the strap.

They still have the plastic loops at the top. I just poked them into the shelf to hang the bag up for the photo!

I can't see the Velcro straps holding shut very well, when the bags get moved about, especially if they get used on for a selection that goes by plane part of the way.

There are rumors that they could be going to a all york based and possiblely getting rid of drop bags, due to most mail centers and hubs having machines to sort most and drop bags add tipping time.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑21 Nov 2023, 08:16I wonder what RM are proposing that MCs do when working with drop bag frames? They rely on the loops at the top, we'll just have to force the edges of the bags onto the hooks
Even saying the above does not make sense with them changing the bags unless they have another use for them ?

They already have stopped a few planes already.
