I'm not usually at home when the postie delivers to my street, so I typically arrange for anything that needs a signature, or is too big for my letterbox to be delivered to my local Post Office after delivery is attempted to my house and a card is left for me.
I don't know if this is a new thing everywhere, or just in my area, but now the card says "we'll automatically redeliver", usually the next working day. IOW, the postie brings it to my address twice now.
I've tried a couple of times to arrange redelivery to my Post Office after the first delivery attempt, but it seems like they just try to deliver to my house again anyway (apparently you can't collect it from the delivery office until after the second attempt either).
I'm sure that this is a useful service for some people, but for me, it just means that it'll take longer for me to receive my packages now. In case of my most recent package, I won't be able to get it until at least Tuesday, because of the bank holiday (under the old system, I'd have been able to get it from my PO on Saturday).
Is there any way to opt out of this and go back to the way things were before? Cheers.

Not opt out Dav, but you can use the "Inflight Request" option to change/amend the delivery instructions to suit your needs.
This is all designed to close Customers Service Points or reduce the opening hours at the very least.
Please let us know how you get on.

Sadly, that only works with tracked stuff (doesn't it?). Doesn't help me much here...

It's national, but as well as saying 'we'll automatically redeliver' it does say 'unless you contact us' in much smaller writing. So as soondavthepunk wrote: ↑25 Aug 2023, 17:45

as you get home and see the first delivery attempt red card I'd get on line: https://www.royalmail.com/receiving-mail/redelivery/
contact RM and ask for it to be 'Local Collect' at your local PO. Seen this quite a lot. As long as you've got the request in early enough
it should come through to the delivery office the next morning and your parcel should be passed to the PO as 'Local Collect' even though
it wasn't a tracked item. If you've tried this and it doesn't work I'd suggest the notification isn't getting through to the delivery office in
time or is not being actioned correctly.
