Not a Royal Mail issue but maybe an expert will know...
I have some items being sent from the USA. The store used ePost who shipped from the US with delivery being handled by Hermes (now Evri) in the UK. What happens if there are Customs charges? As far as I can see Hermes/Evri have nothing about these at all, unlike say Royal Mail.
What happens if there are Customs due but Evri won't pay them, will I be notified by HMRC that the package is being held, and if so, would I be able to pay and get it released? I looked online and seized goods are notified with a form 12A but would it be "seized"?
There's no point to point tracking system, the tracking only covers (in the US) transit between the store to the ePost centre, then shipped with a Hermes trackign number generated and there wo't be anything more until it enters the Hermes system, which presumably means after it's released from Customs. But to be released the carrier has to pay the fees due. So I have no idea if it;s arrived in the UK, being processed by Customs, or whatever.
It's been five days since it shipped and asking around, usually, packages have entered the Hermes system in 2-4 days.

Re: Customs charges & Hermes/Evri
As far as I know, Hermes does pay any VAT charges like Royal Mail do, and they send an invoice to the address on the item.
If there is a charge, it would probably explain the delay.
Might be worth giving them a call as their website isn't very clear, otherwise I guess its a case of waiting for the letter/invoice to arrive.
