Item returned to sender after two delivery attempts?

Post by HotRunes »

Hi there,

So I ordered an item which was coming from Germany, I checked the tracking yesterday evening and it says they attempted delivery on 31st March and there was no answer (as it requires a signature) and then attempted again on 1st April, but then the item has been returned to sender, as the 'recipient is no longer at that address'.

The thing is, I know for a fact that they will have tried to deliver it to the wrong flat, but I wasn't made aware of this at any point during the attempted delivery process. Will my item really have been returned to the sender so quickly, or will it still be at my local delivery depot at this point?

Thank you.

With RTS stuff it can vary greatly as to how long it takes to get back to the sender as it's a "lower priority" than mail which isn't RTS.

What's the tracking number?

Have you double checked with the sender the address that they put on the item?

It's likely to have left your local delivery office promptly (we send them back into the system pretty
much straightaway) although as Space Phoenix says it will transit back through the system slower than
'normal' mail.

What does seem unusual is that they tried to deliver on 31/3 and there was no answer followed by
another delivery attempt on 1/4. The normal procedure after the 31/3 attempt would be that
the (incorrrect) address received a 'red card' on that day saying that the item was now available for collection from
your local DO or Post Office. It would remain there for 18 working days or until collected.
Another attempt to deliver the next day would not be made (unless on the first attempt the address was inaccessible - but you
say the scan report says 'no answer'). Perhaps the person at the incorrect address contacted the delivery
office or post office to say it wasn't theirs and to send it back?

Also the fact that you know the delivery attempt was made to the wrong address - did the person
let you know/did you speak to them?
