Special Delivery package sent to National Returns Centre

Post by jiggly35 »

Good afternoon,

I sent a Special Delivery package to Belfast form the Uttoxeter post office on the 28th with the tracking code JS554330689GB. This package was in a new sturdy box, with the address and return address clearly written on the box.

After checking on the status of the package I get this - Sorry, we were unable to deliver this item at 29-01-2022. It will now be forwarded to our National Returns Centre to determine the sender's details.

Saturday 29 January 2022
12:03
Item Despatched to Belfast South and Central DO
Birmingham MC
11:30
Delivered and Signed
Belfast South and Central DO
08:24
Returned to National Returns Centre
Belfast South and Central DO

Friday 28 January 2022
21:00
Item Despatched to Belfast South and Central DO
North West Midlands MC
17:15
Item received at
North West Midlands MC
13:39
Sender preparing item
13:14
Accepted at Post Office
Uttoxeter Post Office [ST14 8HE]

This has confused me as it states its been 'Item Despatched to Belfast South and Central DO' on the 28th and 29th from the West Midlands MC & Birmingham MC, but also that it was Delivered and Signed!

I'm very confused and I'd appreciate any information that the experts on the site can provide.

Thank you in advance

Something weird going on,. Them two scans one in Birmingham and 1 in Belfast, one of them two scans must be wrong as it would be physically impossible for an item to move from Belfast to Birmingham in half an hour.

That's another weird one, even if it was being sent to the National Returns Centre, I would have expected it to go via Belfast MC.

The only thing that I can think of is maybe the address label has gotten damaged at some point

I always find the “item dispatched to xxxx DO” scan at the *outward* MC quite misleading. In this case NW Midlands (the outward MC) would first dispatch it to Northern Ireland MC (the inward MC) who would then scan it again and then dispatch it to the relevant DO. Why does the scan read like this and appear to miss a step in the transit process? In the case of a missing item this suggests the DO may have it (“dispatched to DO”) when in reality it could still be at the outward MC at the other end of the country or anywhere en route.
