Changes To The Royal Mail Tracking Site

Post by Grateful »

Has anybody else noticed the change in the way The Royal Mail Tracking Site displays the information?

Normally, after letting you know your package has left the International Processing Centre, it goes on to tell you that it has been despatched to whatever your local delivery office is (Via your local Mail Centre) and when it arrives there.

That stage of the process has never taken more than 8 hours in all the packages I’ve received (lots!) and after that it told you on the day of delivery that delivery was going to take place. That meant I was always able to make sure somebody was in to take the delivery.

However, my latest package left the International Processing Centre at 3.51am today and there has been no further updates since?

As such, for the first time in over 3 years, I now don’t know where my package is in the UK.

I may be jumping the gun, but I’ve never had to wait more than 8 hours before I was told it was despatched to my local delivery office.

Has the updating process changed?

I hope not because knowing where your package was at all times once in the UK was very helpful and put my mind at rest.

Hi @Grateful,

Yes, I have noticed the change in the interface as well. It changed earlier this week I think. I've also noticed that updates in the tracking appear to be showing the day after they have happened. I had to phone Customer Services today and they said they were experiencing some IT problems as mine was showing an error message.

Hello I’m facing the same trouble the exact same thing has happened to me if you check out my recent post you can see my parcel left the processing centre at 3:18am on Saturday 22nd of may and still hasn’t updated with it being at the local Mail centre I’m still waiting on it with no updates.
When did this happen to you?

Hi both, the changes in the interface were earlier this week and to be honest I don’t like it. I never understand why organisations don’t stick to the “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” principle”.

That said, at 3.08am today I got an update to say my package was on its way to my local delivery office from my local mail centre. That’s 24 hours after the previous update, it’s never taken that long before.

Hopefully, I will get my package today.

To be frank, if it was scanned at the International Mail Centre at 0351 there is very little chance of it getting to your DO that day. For my DO it has to be at the Mail Centre that feeds us before 6am as that's when they change over the shifts and processing scheme.

The time it takes to get to your DO depends a lot on what time it was scanned and what time the trucks leave for the MC and DO. 8 Hours is possible but the rule of thumb I would say it would need to be scanned before midnight at HWDC, and 6am at the MC and the "Ready for delivery" before 8am

There's no way it'd make it to the local MC if it was scanned at 03:51 as it would have missed the final dispatch of the day to the local MC. Realistically anything that arrives at the local MC after about 05:40-05:50ish won't be processed that day as there won't be the time to do so
