For the first time in a long time, I have sent a 1st class recorded parcel to a seller on eBay on 18/10/2014. However, the track and trace service is not updating that status of this parcel - the 'at ... post office and ready for dispatch' message has not changed within the past five days. The seller has not gotten back to me asking if they have yet received the parcel, despite emailing them, and can already see that I am at a disadvantage in getting a refund back from my return, and will likely have to do a claim with Royal Mail. I have no idea how to make a successful claim with Royal Mail and/or if indeed, get my money back from them for this parcel - contents worth £10.90.
The last time I ever sent anything recorded delivery was in December 2012, and the goods very expensive. I could not get a refund via eBay for returning the faulty item, because did not have proof of posting and it signed for (Royal Mail lost tracking info) and eventually had to go through to Royal Mail's helpline in order to eventually recover the 'proved' sent and signed for item, but too late to get my money back from seller who claimed they never received it and did. I didn't know how to proceed with Royal Mail regarding making a claim as I was sent round the houses with them, and eventually dropped pursuing the matter and lost a £100 in the process. I had tried to chase it up with them a year afterwards after regaining my consumer confidence, knowing that we have at least six years to pursue consumer related issues. I would still like to get my money back from Royal Mail for this particular lost parcel, yet no longer have the tracking number or receipt - I do know that they keep records of recorded parcels in their complex database systems for a good 5 years at least, yet my experiences with them have not been great at all.
Any advice on these two matters is warmly appreciated, and also information about 'free proof of delivery request' where postmen carry one of those signature trackers, that senders of parcels can ask for a copy receipt of something signed for where the track and trace system fails to show proof of parcel receipt.

Re: POD and tracking problems
Recorded (now called 'Signed For) isn't really tracked, it's treated exactly the same as other mail except a signature is required upon delivery.amazinglyso wrote:For the first time in a long time, I have sent a 1st class recorded parcel to a seller on eBay on 18/10/2014.
