But it is worse than that. The strikes were just about grinding down the uppity workforce. Functional strike action was designed to be totally ineffective, just delayed mail by a couple of days, did RM care? They saved on pay, they lost no revenue, they tested the market for uso cuts.Ren Hoëk wrote: ↑19 Jun 2025, 19:14You may have low expectations but when a union led by officials on serious salaries drags an entire workforce out on strike and into dispute I expect them to be able to make sure their actions are water tight.TopperGas wrote: ↑19 Jun 2025, 18:14That's nonsense when the dispute started ST wanted us all agreeing to Sunday plus numerous other reductions in our T&C's, the article even mentions compulsory Sunday working.Ren Hoëk wrote: ↑19 Jun 2025, 16:33The strike were poorly managed. We can't have a strong union without a strong workforce, that backs up the unions threats with solid support.

Not really sure the CWU "cocked up" the strike more likely RM instructed a very good legal team who wnet though everything with a fine tooth comb.
Failure to call all out indefinite strike over a two tier workforce was the ultimate betrayal. You will never get an effective strike again with a built in scab workforce. The PEC castrated the workforce and are now collecting their rewards. Treachery, betrayal, no good will come of it, those responsible will pay the price, I wouldn’t swap places.

There's no way my DO would have gone on all out strike just to support new starters contracts.BELIAL wrote: ↑19 Jun 2025, 22:02But it is worse than that. Re: EP Group tear up Dave Ward's groundbreaking agreement
It wasn’t so much about being altruistic and “supporting new entrants” back in 2022; it was more about the fact you guys and your union should have fought the two-tier working to save your closed shop while you had the chance. You didn’t. Massive, massive own goal. The CWU and its union, including its membership, is now terminally ill as a result.
On the subject of strikes, I reckon a good 90 per cent of us new entrants would have no qualms with crossing a picket line. Some of us have done it before and would do it again.

From my own experience of the previous strikes, we had at least 30% of the office coming in. ( 20 years ago strikes were pretty much fully supported in our office) The now union rep came in. People worked overtime on strike days. People want the best payrise, they want the best terms and conditions but ask them to lose a few days pay and their off. Happy to blame the union later down the line when the bad terms and conditions start to filter down to their job.

It didn't help when people came in after strike days and cleared everything to get some money back via overtime,I know people's circumstances are different bills to pay etc but the strikes were a complete waste of time and I for one won't be going out on strike again as have most of my office said the same thing.

I find it hard to believe the union allowed someone to be a rep who broke a strikeChitchat wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025, 08:42From my own experience of the previous strikes, we had at least 30% of the office coming in. Then again
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Re: EP Group tear up Dave Ward's groundbreaking agreement
Where exactly are Walsh, Ward and Co right now? The North East Division has shown backbone by pushing back against RM's rollout attempts and doing what the national leadership should be doing: standing firm, drawing a line and making clear that without an agreement there should be no co-operation. But it shouldn't fall on one region to carry that weight. The national leaders should be backing them publicly rather than sitting on their hands waiting to see which way the wind blows.
Honestly, I'm really disappointed. The CWU is supposed to be a communications union and yet here we are again with complete radio silence at a critical moment, just like the last deal. That says a lot.

It really is exposing the PEC for what they are.
I guess their tactics are keep quiet and wait for it to blow over and hoping not many members get wind of it.
Maybe the region should hold a ballot on PWRFC affiliation?

Are you serious?
Do you honestly think they would get more than a handful of votes?
Given the voting proclivities of the English they would all vote Reform before voting PWRFC.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: EP Group tear up Dave Ward's groundbreaking agreement
Royal Mail want ofcom to give the green light for uso reform by 1st July. Ofcom have said they will make announcement “in the summer” which very well could be 1st July. Royal Mail have already started the planning for uso change even in offices which arnt in the pilot. All this without union agreement, Ward and Walsh said there would be no uso agreement before everything was settled in the agreement with EP.
We are possibly 10 days away from the one bargaining chip the union have in negotiations disappearing away. Where the hell are Ward and Walsh? Why the silence?
They did this last time and Walsh said lessons will be learned and more communication would be given next time and any future agreement wouldn’t be “served cold”Clearly a lie. They hold the paying members in complete contempt.

Absolutely nothing from Ward and Walsh as even more branches and divisions withdraw cooperation.
