unless both the address of the sender and target address have been ripped off the parcel, it does sound a bit ridiculous that royal mail could open their parcels and sell the items as their own, even if the sender has been given so much worth in stamp value! haha. Its true that its the customers own fault if they didnt opt for special delivery , although i wonder how long they have to wait until they are legally allowed to sell, or what they would do if the item included personal info, eg bank, family or similar personal details. just out of general interest- surely the item would be forwarded to the target or original address and not disposed of or sold in those circumstances? thanks for the info

Unidentified or lost packets are only sent to a department in NI if there is no discernible address on the outside (sender or receiver).

They are in a secure area with CCTV and open them to identify any possible (receiver or sender) addresses, if found they will reseal after including a letter and send it on.

If no address is found then all details of the packet and its contents are logged on to a computer in case they can be identified when someone calls CS.

Items with any value (intrinsic or monetary) are stored for a lengthy period of time and then disposed of. A small number of them are auctioned eventually but this is allay the cost of running the department concerned and storage costs.

After doing a search I found the "Bagpipes" story which is famous in RM and UK. http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... ems#p13943" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

haha. crazy story with the bagpipes! I wonder what the final outcome was, if he was given money back etc. Anyway, my story ends on a good note-missing parcel was delivered TODAY! it turned out the postie did not want to deliver it due to size etc, so was always taken back to the post office when no one was at the target address. They eventually decided to send a letter in the post to the target address to find out when they would be in to hand it over. What a good idea. It turned out the royal mail in the town i sent it to, actually received my parcel back on the 6th or 7th- so it actually took a single day or two first class recorded to travel from one end of the country to the other. Fantastic. The minor blip was just took a further month to get everything organised and give it to the person it was meant for. FFS! Lol. It gives me slightly more hope in RM for its delivery service, at least where sorting offices are concerned, and not lazy posties. Lol. thanks for everyones help. im just glad i have not lost anything and it has been delivered

It probably is nothing too do with being lazy but the fact of the matter is it would not fit through the letter box and no one is at home to open the door!.

thats what i wouldve thought initially, but if theyve had it since the 6th, i just wondered why they only decided to send a note through the door today (instead of around the 6th) so the person it was addressed to could come and collect it! otherwise, they have had no indication that the parcel has been waiting for them in the nearest post office for almost one month! Lol :) it does not matter now of course as it all turned out ok. shouldve went second class (as my nickname dictates) lol! :) ;) :( haha

Have they checked the inside of their letter box in between the front flap and the draught excluder?.

haha good point. Ill probably never find out the truth! Never heard of cats eating the mail though. Must be one hungry (big) cat! Perhaps the postman was just too sacred to make it all the way to the front door. Lol

Depends on the postman a lot of postmen/women are now partime and they are made to work quick very quick it is not a good job now you can easily take 100kg or more a day!. Still the recipients should get your mail in a timely fashion!.
