If we're still at the point where we need to educate reps on the union's position then we're in a whole heap of trouble dingo.
I get the rep's briefing part but Royal Mail had already committed to the Rep's Forum idea last year and had agreed release.
Nowhere did they say that a condition of this was that Moya could force her presence on us.
What will the union do if 2000 reps get up and walk out leaving Dave sitting up on the podium beside Moya looking silly?
It's never a good idea to give the employer a platform to influence reps, end of story.
It's the wrong message to send out to all concerned including RM.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

dingo wrote:It's a good job some of you are not in charge of getting a yes vote. Loads on here have criticised the fact that local reps do not get enough information. Well this is the chance. The announcement will have already be made on the 2nd September. I have to say lots of branch Committees get paid committee meetings on the basis that the DSM or Director addresses the first part of the meeting and then the second part is for the CWU only.

Now there are around 2000 local reps I suggest you reserve your judgement on this until after the event has taken place and then get the feed back.

The aim is to get a yes vote , speaking to every rep in the country at one meeting is priceless in getting the union message across.
Oh god, your right, it's all our fault,

NOT

Do you honestly think that Moya is stupid enough to think that speaking to the reps meeting is going to change their minds...
She is probably banking on the fact that they will dis-reguard anything she says.
She is banking on us going on strike, then confident that the CWU HQ will settle sooner than later on a sub-standard 3 year deal

After all thats been the pattern for the last 10 years or so....

Oh and by the way this meeting is NOT priceless, it comes WITH a price tag... and the members will have to pay for the rest of their working lives

WHY should we have to rely on local reps to get message across surely hq should be sending a letter to every members house telling them exactly what is happening so we could get the full picture and not blah de blah from some reps or is that to much to ask.

Why not just email Tell Moya - no need to have a visitation so to speak.

Seriously do you think she doesn't know and massaging some egos is no reason to invite her to a meeting of such import to the membership.

Fish last year we were not in a ballot for strike action. Headquarters will put out Comms as should Branch's but Comms are not a substitute for a face to face meeting with the members and the opportunity to have all the local reps together to tell them it really is s**t or bust is a good thing. I have been too dozens of meetings where we get the employer to pay for the release of reps. Given Moya an opportunity which will be a round table opportunity where Dave will also answer questions. Then for the union in private to then have the time to speak to all reps.

I can understand the likes of Cut of Kng who believe the union sold the members down the river under BT 2010. We might fundrementally disagree on that as we would have been far worse off if we did not have a dispute and no union has stopped automation and door,to door was never going to remain the same.

However this fight is not simply a dispute about a business plan , all be it the agenda growth will change ways of working including total flexibility and effiency, but it will mean we are trying to stop the new owners from outsourcing work where it can be done champers , we are stopping The new owners from using agency workers on inferior terms rather then use the current staff. BT and British Gas rarely employ people they use agency staff. We are trying to stop the frainaschising of delivery or collection routes , we are trying to stop Royal Mail creating a 2 tier workforce , we are trying to stop another pension attack , but we now have 35000 members in a vastly inferior scheme set up in 2008, we are trying to stop Royal Mail from offering a pay deal with strings which insist we accept pension changes , we accept the agenda for growth including new ways of working , we accept that an office can no longer disagree on issues and we acceptma a no strike deal.

History tells us that some areas are weaker then others when getting a yes vote. if getting a yes vote means 2000 reps have to listen to Moya for an hour and then get the opportunity to hear and question the leadership then it is worth the pAin.

What new owners? Is there a deal already done and the ballot and the meetings merely razzamatazz for the members - blind them with bullshit and ballot whilst cosying up to Moya and her cronies? TBH I think I'd rather trust a second hand car dealer than the current leadership.

We are going to ending up striking, against changes and things which have already happened! Where's the urgency, where's the strategy, this is not a leisurely walk down the pub on a Sunday afternoon!!! Come on the ballot should have already taken place

According to a leaked Royal Mail document it is the plan of the Government to put out the prospectus in late September , this will mean that if there was the intrest then the company would be up to investors and then price would be listed.

This is not just about Politcal ideology , it is about demanding that the Government underwrite commitments on our terms and conditions which any new owner has to abide by.

It does seem that too many on here want to blame everyone else and suggest we are defeated without a fight. There has never been a dispute I have been involved in where we have not got a better deal after a ballot then what was put to us before the ballot. yes some of the settlements we could criticise but even the worst settlement was better than what was originally proposed prior to the dispute and that counts for pay and mod and BT 2010.

We should already have named strike dates , or had taken some action already! We have been repeatedly too slow out the starter blocks

That's because we have wasted 3 years on BT2010 and had a nice little Joint Statement pact with RM instead of listening to the membership and saying enough is enough this agreement needs revisiting. I am tired of hearing the apologists making any manner of excuses for what has been a dismal performance by the union and continues to be so.

Why is that there seems to be no pressure from the CWU on the Labour Party because although they are saying this privatisation is dangerous they dont seem to want to commit to any of the alternatives put forward by the likes of former Labour MP John Grogans and former minister Peter Hain.

What teeth does the new Labour campaign against privatisation have and what dialogue do you have with the Labour leadership regarding reducing the impact of the sale now and in any future government.

Moya has a crafty plan. She expects to be heckled and somehow the provocation will be cranked up leading up to the day she is due to speak so that phone cameras can get footage of a woman being pelted by plastic cups and abused by a mob of union reps.

The Sun will circle individuals in the 'mob' and profile them e.g. "this rep from Swindon is a well known communist who has stuck a picture of Chairman Mao on the dashboard of his revolutionary transport, his vauxhall cavalier."

Public sympathy will be directed towards Moya even though she has been fleecing the UK public for the last few years.

(Apologies to any communist, vauxhall driving reps in Swindon. Any resemblance to actual events or locales or persons, living or dead, is entirely coincidental.)
