More likely worrying about losing out on the last couple of quid of tips.

I mentioned this on another thread, we've got people saying they're going in on the 23rd/24th and knowing what those people are like it's because they're gonna be stood outside number 62's gate giving it a good rattle cos old Mrs Smith always gives em a tenner and she hasn't seen them yet this Christmas! Unbelievable - they've been on strike since August then jack it in incase they're a few quid down on tips from the last couple of years!!

What would people think of receiving the £500 bonus in return for the 23rd / 24th December becoming none strike days?

It’s a suggestion I’ve pondered about floating wider, because;

• That £500 has always been somewhere in RM’s offers so it’s clearly budgeted for (and has been artificially inflating the % rise so would be good to get it paid and off the calculation).

• I don’t think they got as many people in as they were hoping today - I only spotted two shoebox size “clear delivery office” photos today - so some in the management team might be starting to lose their nerve as the press attention intensifies.

• Conversely, the two days in question might not see as strong a walkout. I have to admit I’m conflicted on whether I should continue to hold out for those particular days.

• The suggestion is clearly a sticking plaster and doesn’t resolve anything else… but that’s kind of the point and us making £500 from the threat of strike action could be seen as a small win.

And finally;

• Dealing with a mountain of blacklog after Christmas/into the new year doesn’t sound like much fun!

Thoughts please?

Cam i understand what you are saying and i don't believe accepting anything from these jokers is going to be a win, we need a change in the Royal Fail attitude, which i dont think is going to happen, for us to get some sort of resolution which will be acceptable. I Think the pressure is ramping up on both sides, us because of the financial hit and RM because of the backlog/public perception and media hit, i think if we can hold out until after xmas and it turns into a shambles for RM with little Johnnies pressies all stuck in the log jam the public/media might just turn on them and scrutinise a bit more finely exactly what they are up to. Then they will fold quicker than superman on washing day and thats probably the only thing that will turn them at the moment. Its high risk on both sides but what other choice do we have, i think if RM even suspect its going against them they will come running to Dave with their chequebook out and settle on the spot. But then again i am just a postie what do i know.

It’s more likely Royal Mail are letting it get to this stage because they believe the public and media will turn against the union and posties which will make it easier to destroy our terms and conditions next year

Our image, especially after the pandemic, has been one of our biggest strengths thus far. It’s easy to bash faceless rail workers but not as easy to bash the people a lot of the public interact with every day and know on a personal level.

RM may be hoping that this tarnishes us in their eyes.
