It is indeed farcical! Do they really think more strikes will get us a little bit more or convince Royal to capitulate!

Why announce new strike dates in the midst of assisted negotiation with ACAS?

Simon has actually been more quiet and not provocative since the ACAS talks started.

Strike, strike and more strike from the CWU as if we will ever recover from the loss!

The changes will still come... The Union is digging its own grave!
It's already been explained once, the CWU have to give the statutory notice to take IA. That IA can then be cancelled at very short notice (i.e As in the Death of the Queen).

Just because we're now at ACAS (and negotiations might be going well) it's not a time to simply call off all IA in the hope that ST sees sense and makes some sensible compromises. As previously mentioned this has happened in the past and once RM got that Cease Fire they then renaged on it, giving them a 14 window before the CWU could take more IA. :cuppa

For the benefit of our employees and customers?

Yeah, right. Like you even give a flying f**k about your employees and customers.

The level of absolute dishonesty displayed by that moron, Thompson, throughout his time in Royal Mail, is quite simply staggering.

Team - “we are surprised that without any discussion, CWU has chosen to announce two further days of strike action”…..
I was surprised that you gave yourself a bonus + shares within the business. Surprised you gave your management a grand for doing nothing extra. Surprised that I got a 2% pay increase in my wages without consulting with the workforce. Surprised you want to move times, and for us to work Sunday's so as we can't have proper family time. Surprised you want to change sick pay. Surprised you are still in this company and haven't came to a resolution by now.

One thing I am surprised of is do you still have a TEAM left because the whole workforce including management don't believe in you.

Simon You have lost Your work force. Do the honourable and right thing and resign. What ever the outcome now You have alienated your work force.Surely as a CEO You believe they are the biggest asset? Your behaviour towards them says not

To all of you guys trying to point out his failure, monumental failures I must stress. This wan ker isn't interested in striking a deal with cwu nor he cares about us. He wants everything, he isn't interested in any concessions.

He will try to shift the blame on cwu and us for wrecking company but this what he really wants. Under the disguise of ugly dispute, cwu unwilling to accept total wipe out of terms will be blamed for further redundancies that will eventually lead to the company breakup. Royal mail assets will be stripped off and a very close group of millionaires will make a nice sum.

While those of us who will be willing to accept the changes and deteriorated t&c's will be getting paid pittance for what is already very hard work.

If there is no sudden change of movement within 2weeks, further strikes are pointless and those who are not prepared to accept this farce, should embrace themselves for a new job. I think our only chance might be government intervention but I wouldn't hold my breath.

The problem with Simon Thompson's changes is he's going to be leaving the workforce behind . Any enforced changes without the Union's agreement is doomed to failure . Roughly 115,000 disgruntled workers are not going to give a flying ....... or go that extra mile to make sure these changes work . In many ways Thompson has already lost . I think it's time for the board to sack him before he destroys the company .

The broader point you are missing is Royal Mail don't want the current workforce. They don't want the age-old attitudes, the union meddling with their plans, the old ways of working.

They would happily sack everyone, bring in non-unionised casual labour, and pay them less. That's their vision, and that's why they are prepared to create the carnage we are in, because they obviously see it as a price worth paying for progress.

Good luck getting casuals to do the job for less pay than they get now

And that’s the job as it is today, not the even worse job it would be by then
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

I'm not disagreeing with your theory norm (and it's a lot less far fetched than some) it's just a MASSIVE gamble for RM.

The points you make are valid but imagine trying to rebuilt this business from the ground up, during this current cost of living crisis. :hmmmm

I think the BIGGEST problem would be trying to recruit 100K plus "Casuals". From my experience "Casuals" are usually more hungry for cash than those in Regular Employment. I don't believe the bollocks about "Achieving a better life balance because they can work when they want" they're normally strapped for cash and take Agency work because they can't/won't get a Regular Job, often using Agency Work as a gateway to joining a company. :hmmmm

There's a 50K shortage in the Employment Pool since the end of Covid (when a lot of people realised they didn't need/want a shite job and just dropped out of employment). So there's not a vast pool of Unemployed queing up at the gates looking for work. Imagine if RM had Furloughed us all during Covid  I doubt they'd have had a Business to return to .... that would have solved their Redundancy Problems! :cuppa

Bad management should of seen this coming so shouldn't have paid out £400 million and kept some in the bank, now they expect the workers who made that £400 million to take the hit, well sorry Royal Mail we will never surrender, you need to replace those bosses who made that dreadful decision ,do not come crying to us.

Simon.....what have you actually offered the CWU and 'the team'?

TELL US!!! - You can actually let us know what you have been offering the CWU during these talks....

You're the one that's supposed to offer us a better deal!

WHAT HAVE YOU ACTUALLY OFFERED! - NOTHING!

This Simon geezer is inept and just playing games. He's in dreamland thinking he can pay his workforce minimum wage, working in their own vans, paying for their own fuel, when inflation is through the roof. This will also mean a poor quality service. Royal Mail will end up with a reputation like Yodel and lose customers who chose us because of reliability.
