Exactly my point! We all in our lives are going to need arrangements for the unexpected but having children is normally not unexpected but the amount of time I've heard family friendly and need to get home for the kids in the same sentence! my fear is its just getting hi-jacked by these people!

Another selfish postman pops up.

It's not fair BLAH BLAH BLAH
Ernie,
So "for people with kids to pick up from school concessions should be made - but otherwise tough titties" is fair  but for "family friendly arrangement because I am a carer for my elderly mother" is "Another selfish postman pops up" :arrrghhh
Is Wise your second name or are you really attempting to be serious ?
you need to read the thread properly
Ernie,
So it's not about whether we have children it's that family friendly arrangements depend on whether or not the child was expected. :thumbup :cuppa
Now can we please get back to discussing whether we're ready for a national strike ? :Very Happy I'm all for striking as it will eliminate childcare costs for a while

You failed to mention my other points - strange that !
your other points,...well lets look shall we!!...starting with your second point. we should accept later starts. people with kids should have concessions made for them. if you haven't got kids tough titties!!...what a totally selfish point. a lot of people started this job because of the early finish, lifestyle and other commitments were able to be upheld because of this. now because the jobs changed only people with kids should get an early finish!! WOW..... your first point is totally 100% WRONG. bringing in 6 hour deliveries will NOT save jobs it will cause job LOSSES!!. where do you think that extra work will come from ernie?... i'll give you a clue. not indoor work!! 2 years ago Mark Baulch was at our office and it was him who told us about RMs hidden agenda on 6 hr deliveries. other duties will be carved up to achieve this. i.e. lets say you have an office where all walks are 4hrs long. you have duty A. B. & C. they will take 2 hrs work from duty B. and add that to duty A. and the other 2 hrs will be put on to duty C. giving both duties 6 hrs work. duty B. will be made redundant. that's 1 in 3 jobs will go. now the figure he actually gave was this:- RM currently have 68000 walks up and down the country. they want that reduced to 43000. that's 25000 jobs to go ernie....NOT SAVED!!. And these redundancies are not being picked on a seniority basis either!! it could be you, me, anybody who's duty is carved up. now you tell me if you or Mr S.O.B think that this is not worth striking over then fair enough...I wish you well in your redundancy. its an inevitable outcome that ONLY strike action will stop. vote for it lads and lasses its the only way to stop their rot.
Taking industrial action will not 'stop the rot' as you put it. Far from it. The only outcome of industrial action will be an acceleration in loss of jobs, business, revenue and crucially public confidence in our brand. The postal market is now fiercely competitive and with mail volumes declining, it is imperative that we exploit and expand our parcels business. A 35 hour week is pie in the sky. It cannot be afforded in a very competitive market where we must ruthlessly drive down our operating costs and remain a profitable business. Unions themselves are outdated and backward looking in an era where we must embrace change and be innovative in our solutions to the challenges we face.

Utter crap - the postal market is not fiercely competitive no other company deliver LETTERS AND PARCELS together and until they do they are not competing. The board is showing no interest in growing the business, we could have same day services, bring parcel force into RM and have dedicated parcel duties etc. etc. but no, it's strip all assets and sell everything off, short term gain for long term problems ahead.

Letter volumes are in decline as we are all too aware, which means me must continue to grow our parcels business to compensate for this decline. It is the parcels market where our competitors are developing their products to offer what customers are demanding. If we take our eyes off the ball and take industrial action those competitors will eagerly sweep in and happily take that business and revenue from us. Job losses will follow. Inevitably.

You simply confirm the 'turkeys voting for Christmas' mentality that is rife among the union members. You couldn't care less about the customers who pay our wages or the company that gave us the opportunity to earn a living. For you it is all about getting one over the management of the Royal Mail. Industrial action doesn't work. Never has and never will. All it does is destroy business revenue, consumer confidence and ultimately jobs.

SOB, i'm absolutely appalled at your attitude to unions, without them we would not have decent jobs and decent terms and conditions!!! which should be an aspiration to all employers, I would not like to depend on employers to give me the benefits, that I had throughout my career with royal mail, it was only the sheer hard work of the CWU and my colleagues, that determined our pay rates over the years, yes we had to strike on occasions, but to me personally, it was only done as a last resort, you may have heard this tory government crowing today about employment rates, being the lowest for some 40 years, I wonder how many of those jobs CREATED, were minimum wage jobs, i'd hazard a guess, the majority!!! remember, if we had DECENT employers, there would no need for unions, and just seen a programme, that stated, we paid out £9 billion in housing benefit, since 2015, most of it to supplement people not being paid enough to afford their rent, and strangely enough, 70 tory MPS are private landlords!!, getting richer on the backs of the working classes and the poor!!!, nothing changes, does it????

Too right I don't care about royal mail anymore and I'd love to get one over moya and her cronies just like they want to me by destroying my pension(£5000 a year I will lose) and taking away anything decent about the job.

SOB why don't you deduct any pay you receive over minimum wage and donate it to a charity of your choice? Because thats what you'd be on if it wasn't for the union...let me guess you aren't prepared to do that??

It seems to me that the Chief Executive may want a strike.

Seems she may have a history for it when in charge of Canada post.

I doubt he is even a post-person. He is either a paid shrill or someone employed by RM management to stir up forum boards such as these. You see it on other forums - e.g. hardware forums - an example would be - if Sony were close to releasing a new TV, you would suddenly have new members join, to slate the company, or big-up rival sets. It's not quite 'trolling' but I'm convinced businesses devote sections of their PR department to cause unrest on forums.
