In my DO it's more a case of "The Death of a Thousand Cuts". A lot of the older, more experienced Posties are just working the way they used too. However the goal posts have been slowly moving all the time. They've had a little bit more added to their Duties over a period of time, they've got to empty a few letterboxes whilst they're going around, the lapsing has been introduced for longer periods (with a bit extra tacked on) :no no

Meanwhile they just keep thinking..."It's only an extra 10 minutes/20 minutes/30 minutes" and they've still got their old mindset, not putting their foot down and saying, "OK I'll do all that extra but I can't complete my duty within time"! :thumbdown

Some guys, who are old enough to know better, STILL don't realise that they don't have to lapse if they can't complete within time. They give the young lads a shitty look and complain that they're not taking their lapsing out! :arrrghhh But you should see the look of joy in their faces when they come back to the frame and tell us they've told the DOM (for the 1st time) that they won't be taking their lapsing! So there's hope yet. :Very Happy

Don't see why you are worried/stressed out unless you are management because it's a management issue not your regular Joe Postman. You don't take lapsing or any excess from any other duties unless you can complete it within your contracted paid hours for that day unless you're happy to do it & be paid the OT if you're over. If you don't want to work over your time & taking lapsing makes you go over even 6 times out of 10, then it's clear you cannot take the lapsing reliably & be able to complete.

I could have swore I had seen something on our noticeboard around maybe a year ago, with some agreement between the Union & management that sick absence or staff shortage would no longer be accepted as a valid reason for lapsing duties & only when mail/packet volumes dropped enough to allow it. Nearly 100% certain I'd seen something in writing to that effect.

i take it your not senior enough to take leave in December? i like taking this week off every year, why should they ban that?
You aren't allowed to allocate leave based on seniority for any time of the year.

The Overunning Procedure is not a problem...."In Theory" TNP. It's the attitude of the Management within your DO. Some Managers are OK and acknowledge you've informed him you can't complete in time and let it go at that. Then everything's rosey! :thumbup

Problems arise when your manager is a) A Dickhead b) An Asshole c) A Bully d) Incompetent ....or any combination! :thumbdown Then you start to get problems when a Postie tries to use the correct Overrunning Procedure. In a perfect world a Postie could simply stand his ground (some do not have the confidence). He should inform his Union Rep and lodge a disagreement (some DOs don't even have a Rep and others have ineffective ones. Dare I say some Reps seem to be in league with the DOM......and will not do ANYTHING unless it reduces their own workload :no no ). He should simply work his contracted hours (when you start to get bullied by your DOM with no support from either your colleagues, or your Rep, it becomes VERY difficult and some Posties just don't have the confidence to do it).

To recap the Overunning Procedure is not the problem....It's whether or not the Management recognise, and abide, by it! :hmmmm

Makes no odds if you ban leave,More people will go sick so banning leave totally pointless.
As someone has already said,Nobody really cares anymore because nobody cares for us.
Look after your workers and make them feel appreciated instead of talking to us like shite and making us feel we don't work hard enough.
One of the lads in our office was told that plenty of people in our office deserved the xmas eve treat of sandwiches and cakes,But he certainly was not one of them.
The reason why? Because he refused to work over his time,f***ing pathetic.

When the rush was on to get world class mail, the brown nosers in our office got themselves on the "team" and after a very easy month for themselves didn't even get a bronze, but that didn't stop them being rewarded by getting a pizza treat each by the area manager.
