Codes and numbers on stamp

I'm afraid that the customer services number is entirely automated now so there is no way of asking anyone for the branch code. I have found a list of branches online with 'Location OU codes' which was extracted through a freedom of information request - but these do not seem to be equivalent to branch codes nor do the longitude and latitude numbers, or at least not for the branch I am trying to locate. The square design barcode on the postage label is known as a 2D barcode which is 'zapped' by posties using their PDA devices to state whether the item has been delivered etc. The line of letters and numbers following the PRN on the label above the barcode can be typed into the PDA to achieve the same objective if the PDA cannot read the barcode.
The postage labels are usually white paper but they can come in gold coloured paper as well.
QR codes are a different looking type of square barcode that when read by a smartphone brings up a website.

I have just received a parcel for my son for Easter and have no idea who sent it. I've had a look online for the BR code but cannot find anything, if anyone could help that would be great.the BR number is 241137.

Hi all, hoping there's still someone reading this thread.
Someone is engaged in a harassment and hate campaign against me and I don't know who. I have reported to the police but they are doing nothing. Over the weekend I received hate mail through the post and I'm hoping the QR code might give me clues to who is doing this. Does anyone know which branch is number 259007?

Thanks. I actually phoned up Royal Mail and cried at them over the phone and they gave me the information. It hasn't helped though unfortunately.

These codes are supposed to be secret. However, we have advised people in the past to call Post Office customer services on 03457 22 33 44 and ask very nicely, this does seem to work.

Hey iv had an awful parcel that was sent from a company anonymous it's a package definitely to cause distress. I want to find the branch code. Police are indeed involved the BR:205002 PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP.

The Post Office may be able to tell you, apparently if you speak nice to them sometimes they will tell you. But officially they shouldn't.

My advice is as the Police are involved, they can find out without jeopardising the investigation, so I would strongly advise leaving it to them. They may also be getting assistance and advice from our own internal investigation service.

Or you could follow the advice further back in the thread. There are 11,000 post office branches and only a couple of people on here who post and currently work in the PO, so your request has a lottery win chance of success.

Hi All

I am wondering if you can help me.
I tried calling th phone number in the previous thread but I cannot ever get through to a person it is just automated.
I have also been I to my local post office and they told me to call the number too!

I have a BR number of 056923

And I would just like to know the general area just so I can work out who was kind enough to send us a gift.
(I have of course asked my family and closest friends)

Any information would be greatly recieved and appreciated.

I don't understand the need for secrecy as stamps on parcels used to be date stamped by the Post Office and during their early years Horizon Labels included the Postcode District of the issuing Post Office which I knew to be useful when the contents of carelessly packed packages were missing on delivery.
Now it's the addressee's Postcode and house number that's shown which only duplicates what's on the package anyway.
