I am more than a little shocked by your comments as both the area rep and the area manager is located in your office is it not? And we are told(often) that Wigan is a militant office by said area rep :hmmmm ;liar
Meanwhile we had a most constructive gate meeting in meal relief time which was well attended...maybe your rep should have arranged it for a better time  ,but then again we do have two decent reps(well one really, the sub!!,the proper one is a management nark) and some decent union committee members. :Applause

I believe the area rep is supposed to be based in our office, but you wouldn't know it, as I honestly can't recall the last time I saw him on the shop floor. Engagement with members at Wigan DO these days is near non-existant, or at least it certainly is in a pro-active sense.

I would have described *some* of our lot as militant maybe even as recently as a year ago, but not now. Something has changed, and not for the better.

Got mine Thursday last week, returned it Friday.

Must say, there was a meeting in our office but it wasn't attended by all, for instance, those on day off. But, as someone else said, if it were not for my visits to RMC, I would probably know next to nothing about any issues affecting us.
It's a sad state of affairs, but it's an old story that should have been sorted out by now.
Sometimes, I wish I wasn't a Rep.

The ballot "What difference would it make"
Privatisation "Its going to happen whatever we do"
The Union "They are out of touch and caved in too early last time" and "They do nothing for us, but want us to strike for their own reasons"

I disagree with everything they say, but it does get wearing when you seem to be the only one fighting the Unions corner.

Part of the problem I think is that members feel the Union is too busy looking after its own organisation but not organising the membership until its an issue HQ want to push. Sad thing is to an extent I think they are right.
Of course they're right, the CWU have been in bed with RM for a number of years now. Joint statements are the order of the day....only last week I watched a WTL video with RM&CWU jointly praising the new attendance agreement. :arrrghhh ( at the same time as telling members how they oppose RM's plans )

Why should we strike when we know that in the end the CWU will cave in and go along with what Moya wants.

The CWU have a history over the last 10 or so years comming out of negotiations saying " well, its the best we could get" then proceeding to sell the agreement as the deal of the century, only to find that the text of the agreement says one thing to CWU members BUT something else to RM managers !

I for one don't trust the CWU HQ to get a watertight, no loopholes, "does what it says on the tin" agreement.

CWU HQ think that only they see the big picture, and that members don't know whats good for them......

I know that RM have PROFIT at any cost as their mantra, but I also think that the CWU HQ has allowed & encouraged RM to think that way because of their failure to challange RM at the start, they allow RM to push the boundaries way too far, before putting up any sort of resistance, by then its too late.

And this campaign is just another example of RM setting the pace, and the CWU trying to catch up. Too little, too late again.

The CWU needs to SET the agenda of where RM's going, not react after it's been steered in the wrong direction !

The union have rightly gone cap in hand to their membership looking for support on the "big issues" like privatisation and DSA mail, but at the same time given next to no help to members in offices where "smaller" problems like endemic B&H and unreasonable lapsing are day to day issues, and have already been identified as such. Really, how is the average postie on the shop floor supposed to know what the model week is? Or where they stand when accused of poor performance or even wilful delay?

The joint statements on these, both nationally and the one I've seen locally have been nothing short of pathetic, and of no use whatever to a member when confronted with a bullying manager determined to make life hard for them.
