Does regular airmail mail have an option for tracked mail, or just airsure and international signed for?
Regular - No

International Signed for: Yes for Portugal http://www.royalmail.com/delivery/deliv ... /details#2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Track & Trace

To ensure fast and secure handling, International Signed For items are scanned at the following points in the UK:

Post Office® (for those items paid for and posted at your local branch)
Local mail centres
Royal Mail International processing centres
We are also currently working closely with our overseas partners to improve the availability of Track & Trace information abroad, which is, as yet, not generally available with International Signed For. From June 2011, the following countries will have tracking overseas; a scan on arrival into the country and on delivery: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ireland, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Japan, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden and Switzerland.
Airsure Partly. http://www.royalmail.com/delivery/deliv ... re/details" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Track & Trace

To ensure a fast, reliable and secure service, Airsure® items are scanned at 6 different points, from collection in the UK to delivery overseas.

Post Office® (for those items paid for and posted at the Post Office® branch)
Local mail centre
Royal Mail International processing centre
Office of Exchange overseas
Mail Centre overseas
Delivery Office overseas

Although Airsure® is not a guaranteed service, Royal Mail works closely with its overseas partners to continuously improve quality of service and reliability of Track & Trace information.

many thanks for your help, just one more question, can the seller get a refund of the total value of the lost goods? I think he used "international signed for".

Depends on what level of compensation they have paid for, or even if they did - and what the item was: http://www.royalmail.com/delivery/deliv ... ed/details#" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Your compensation entitlement

Compensation can only be claimed in the event of loss or damage. International Signed For is not a guaranteed product so no compensation can be claimed in the event of delay. If you require a guaranteed service, try Parcelforce.

The maximum compensation for loss or damage to an International Signed For item is £50 or the item value whichever is the lower, unless extra compensation has been purchased. Extra compensation is available on payment of an additional fee up to £250 or £500, depending on the country destination (but please see exceptions for cash and mobile telephones below). Consequential Loss is not available for International Signed For items.

The maximum compensation payable when extra compensation has been purchased for items containing coins, banknotes or currency notes, securities or instruments payable to bearer (e.g. cheques, bankers drafts, travellers cheques) has been limited to £100 per item.

Extra compensation is not available for mobile telephones (or PDAs or Blackberries, etc) sent via International Signed For. Therefore, the maximum compensation payable for loss or damage to a mobile telephone is £50. PLEASE NOTE that when International Signed For is used to send a packet containing a mobile telephone together with other items, additional compensation can be purchased but this will only cover the other contents.

Items containing coins, banknotes or currency notes, securities or instruments payable to bearer (e.g. cheques; bankers drafts; travellers cheques), platinum, gold or silver (whether manufactured or not) and other precious stones, jewels and other valuable articles must be sent by either Airsure® or International Signed For (availability depending on country).

Please check individual country entries to ensure that the particular destination will accept such items and to check whether there are any other specific requirements for sending valuables to a particular country.

When to claim
We allow 20 working days for items to arrive at European destinations and 25 working days for the rest of the world, so we cannot accept a claim for loss until at least 20 or 25 working days have passed since the item was posted. All claims must be submitted by the sender within six months of posting the item.

Claims can be made by visiting our Customer Service page or completing the P58 form for lost or damaged mail which is available at Post Office® branches.
