Re: bad back
If you go off sick with a bad back then it's generally protocol to refer you to ATOS straight away. I realise people have had problems, but I missed a good few months work through a slipped disc, a few years back, and they were nothing but helpful for me. They arranged for private physiotherapy, which would have set me back hundreds if I had paid for it myself. The physio then told ATOS what I was able to do and gradually built me up back to full duties. I still have problems with it, but that same physio taught me exercise to help, and although I have to take strong meds still, I can cope with the demands of the job.
If you try and go it alone, and have odd days off here and there, because it hasn't healed properly, you will end up in a bad way. Do it officially and you will have your back covered (pun intended) as your manager has to listen to their advise, which will ultimately come from your physio/doc if you go the official route.

Re: bad back
We have some very cold weather on its way for the next ten days or so. If your backs twinging you now your going to stuggle.
Has it eased since Sept ? Or is this a relapse etc ?. If it gets bad go off sick and see your doctor for a cert after 7 days. Stage warnings (we have all had them) wont count for much if you totally damage your back.

Re: bad back
Slightly off topic sorry, but if you have an injury do ATOS have access to your NHS records, and can they do a full medical on you? OR do they just evaluate the injury?

Cold weather really doesn't help these sorts of things, ask for a transfer to the Channel Islands.

No NHS records for a run of the mill referral,if IHR is mentioned later on they can ask for details/info from your doc or whatever specialists you may be seeing.monkeymutha wrote:Slightly off topic sorry, but if you have an injury do ATOS have access to your NHS records, and can they do a full medical on you? And they just usually evaluate the injury to start with.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: bad back
Anyone suffering with a bad back should definitely buy a TENS machine. It sends electrical impulses via sticky patches that you place on the affected area. It has been bloody brilliant for me. Only been using it for a week and have seen a 80/90% improvement. Only 20 quid off eBay.

Judging by your avatar then the first thing I would advise is try eating something.Rainbow wrote:ive had a bad back for a few years now, but since doing a few stretching exercises before going to work in the morning, i feel a lot more comfortable. i would see your local GP and take any advice offered.
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
