Would you do extra work for less money?

Big Dave.......

Do you work Saturdays at all never mind working a later one?

Big Dave........

How much are you getting for putting this deal through? I am totally and utterly convinced there is financial gain for the CWU if this deal goes through. It's the only logically explanation why the CWU are trying to persuade/force us to vote yes? Why else would they feel they need to travel up and down the country like a circus to try and get yes votes? It sure as hell is not to benefit the paying members! Your a disgrace CWU! A complete disgrace! You let me down in 2007, 2009 and now 2010. The choice this pathetic agreement gives me is simple me thinks.....

Vote yes for a secure job for the next few years with total lack of terms and conditions. Royal Mail free to do with you what they feel is operationally viable or

Vote no and and let's get a deal were we all benefit. If we don't get a deal were we all benefit I for one would still rather have my self respect than a job were I'm expected to do what the computer thinks I can do.

So thanks but no thanks Dave. Stick your current proposals where the sun don't shine and come back to me when you have something with a little more substance.

I think the point about having to do what the computer says is very important. We had our meeting with our DOM today and he kept quoting the traffic figures against the manpower levels insisting that we should be able to do everything within the time.

Even on a Saturday where people work faster than required we still end up working to our time, so with the proposed extra sized walks, with extra prep etc including extra D2D'S I just can't see it working.

I except some things need to change and apart from the lousy Saturday situation, I am happy to do the job properly and work to my time. What I don't want is to feel pressured into working at an unreasonable speed inside and outside and then be accused of not being in the top 10% or whatever because the computer says we can do it.

There is no common sense being applied to this in RM'S desire to save money. I think there will be a lot more trouble in store if they pursue this type of attitude.

In summary Dave is saying we need to accept change. I think we all agree with that Dave, but it has to be change for the better not the worse.

Over d2d - the only benefactors of these proposals are RM. They will reap the potential 400million pounds in extra revenue and our share of that will be......? Nothing. It will be coffers for the boards bonus scheme. Dave threatens us with the idea/lies that our d2d payment will be taken away! That would be breaking current agreement and it wont happen.

The real threat is all in 1 envelope for 1.67p. Well thats one d2d for 8quid! So here are the choices. Vote NO and
get all d2d in one envelope - get 8 quid a week
or Vote Yes and
get 8 loose d2d a week, 52 weeks a year - get 15 quid a week. I'd rather loose the 7quid.
7 quid difference to not get shed loads of d2d. Vote NO.

Bob Gibson was saying that we have an opportunity for more Sats off. AN OPPORTUNITY!!!! So it's not guaranteed Bob? That's a shame because I don't feel like voting away my weekends for the slim chance/no chance of getting more Sats off.

Good try guys, you might convince a few ambitious reps but not the rank and file.

he says the d2d system as it is now is "unsustainable", WHY ? RM only pay us a very small percentage of what they make from d2d so if this system was kept in place it wouldn't matter how many or how few we delivered they would still make a profit from them. I'm not actually against doing more d2d, but why shouldn't we be paid for doing extra work and making extra effort based on how much we each individually do ?

A very good point. Ask yourself a question, who really wanted D2D into workload and treated as live mail?
Could it be RM? why?
RM have freely admitted that D2D is one of their most profitable lines they are hardly going to dump the product. RM do have a massive and growing problem with quality though, this is a management failure pure and simple. Years of cuts mean that staffing levels are stripped to the bone and workload is often unachievable ;the slightest hiccup ,sickness ,failure to coax folks into working their days off etc. and we all know what gets left in the office. Getting our union to sell us this pay cut while at the same time sorting out their self inflicted management problems is an absolute RM masterstoke :chuckle
