Re: New starters and commit to deliver
There is no 'commit to deliver'.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Royal Mail has the responsibility of providing a public service. This puts a special
obligation on all employees to play their part in maintaining the kind of service that
the public has a right to expect. The nature of the service makes a measure of
additional hours and overtime working necessary. For this reason, it is a condition
of your employment that you are liable to work additional hours and overtime and
to attend at varying times on any day (including weekends and public bank
holidays) as the needs of the service demand.

My gut feeling is that it can be enforced. RM's lawyers would have gone through the standard new contracts to check what can and can't be doneAcca Dacca wrote: ↑29 Nov 2023, 19:03Not compulsory and cant be enforcedredlen wrote: ↑29 Nov 2023, 18:429.2

My gut feeling is that absolutely no one will put up with that and it’s evidenced by the sheer number of new starters that leave as soon as they find out.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑29 Nov 2023, 19:30My gut feeling is that it can be enforced. What redlen has posted isnt just whats in new contracts - clause 9 has been included in contracts for many yearsSpacePhoenix wrote: ↑29 Nov 2023, 19:30My gut feeling is that it can be enforced. Re: New starters and commit to deliver
It doesn’t have to be in the contract anyway. A new starter can be pressurised into working to complete. That is why we should be trying to encourage them to join the union, despite them not being seen as a priority by the union higher ups.

What’s the union going to do for them exactly?…they’ve unfortunately become completely powerless and won’t address anything at ground level, they just use the “take out a grievance” line.

It might vary from office to office or area to area, but both our office and area reps are decent.Valentina@1 wrote: ↑30 Nov 2023, 09:07What’s the union going to do for them exactly?…they’ve unfortunately become completely powerless and won’t address anything at ground level, they just use the “take out a grievance” line.

Emphasis mine. It would be amusing to see the company's lawyers argue all parties should fulfill their contractual obligations.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑29 Nov 2023, 19:30My gut feeling is that it can be enforced. You cannot work more than 48 hours a week on average - normally averaged over 17 weeks.

Re: New starters and commit to deliver
It's not in the new contracts. FFS. do your reps not know what is going on. If I didn't know my job as a union rep I would be voted out but wouldn't wait if I was shut at being avrep.
